what if America Fererra pulls a Jié Mi Lee this year?

the least deserving of the category who wins again thanks to a flawless campaign.

i don't care what anyone says if you work your ass off and rock a campaign, you deserve it. that's a fact.

Flamin' Hot had its world premiere at South by Southwest (SXSW) on March 11, 2023.[29][30] It was released on both Hulu and Disney+ on June 9, 2023.[31][32] The movie was screened on the South Lawn of the White House on June 15, 2023. President Joe Biden and director Eva Longoria, a notable Democrat campaigner, delivered remarks at the event, promoting it as the first White House screening of a movie focused on Hispanic characters.[33][28]

Wait this was an online release! I'm getting Diane Warren's annual nomination RESCINDED!

more like the branch looks for her name to check off first every year, same w Williams in score

her friends are automatically obligated to vote for her.

remember that she went 13 years between nominations, when all the voters for the song nominees had to rate the songs from 1-10 so there had to be a general agreement that a song was good. but now that it's a regular popularity contest, she just has to get her friends to vote for her every time.

Jié Mi was boosted w the SAG win & pre-cursor split, also didn’t hurt she was practically the front wheel of EEAAO’s campaign vehicle

Is Ms Buchanan reading this thread, this seems like an @ to me :dies:

the way Jié Mi saw that miniscule gap and went full throttle in the last two weeks. deserves a Honorary Academy Award for Best Campaign methinks. :ryan3:

Very interesting that despite increasing by 50% the members, it barely changes anything in the way the AMPA is voting. There are very odd choices (Greta for writing not for directing), Past Lives being BP and Screenplay but not its lead, Blunt for SA (sorry but such a minor role doesn't deserve recognition), etc.

As much as the Golden Globes are a joke, they definitely were more accurate in their nominations this year than the Oscars.

I think Poor Things is going to pull a The Favourite and win only Best Actress

France really fumbled a win just because they got their feelings hurt.

It really isn't politically motivated as everyone likes to think. The committee always makes WEIRD choices and rarely sends the most obvious winner from the French films pools. They don't get what would appeal to voters in America. La Passion... got rave reviews in France and I am sure they were like : this is about food and the artistry of it à-la-Grande-Bouffe.

While a more classic trial movie like Anatomy is like Parasite. More universal in its style and easily watchable (it's a very good movie but I wonder how it got the Palme tbh). Sandra Huller is fantastic though and I am glad she got a nom (very strong year for year with the incredible Zone of Interest as well).

I think TB&TH has it tbh

A fully hand-drawn movie after all the AI art discussion that happened in 2023 + it being the last movie made by the greatest animator that has ever lived is a GREAT campaign to run on.

Cause I'm just Ken, anywhere else I'd be a ten
Is it my destiny to live and die a life of blonde fragility?
I'm just Ken
Where I see love, she sees a friend
What will it take for her to see the man behind the tan and fight for me?

Will this be Diane’s year?

Even if the Barbie songs split votes I don't think Diane will be close

Not a lot of surprises.

Oppenheimer run an excellent campaign by the Nolan PR machine.

Nolan going to Sundance and pretending to still be an indie director was a smart more. Nolan himself campaigning for RDJ guarantees support from the acting block.

I'm rooting against it now.
