hausofdave Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 good rule of thumb in the Doc Feature category is: -if it's a well-liked biography of a celebrity, it will show up at every precursor, but will be lucky to get shortlisted much less nominated at the Oscars. 1
Solaria Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 We don’t care about the Oscar nom for Dua because now she can get back to pushing HITdini

Which is why I think it’s funny that people are mad about Ryan Gosling and a certain song “stealing” the movie away from its feminist message as if Gerwig…didn’t intentionally give Ken the biggest and most memorable set piece and gags of the movie and relegated Margot to reactive for a lot of the second half. Even America, who felt underwritten as a real life POV for the audience, got the Big Speech moment. Kinda wish Rhea Pearlman was more in the conversation. Definition of a well written supporting character, whose two scenes were both key to Barbie’s journey and felt like the emotional heart of the movie, moreso than America’s jarring rally. Antisocialites Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 Carey MulliGODan continues to be the Oscar Darling of the 2020s. God, I love when pure TALENT wins.
Liafen Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 N E ways not Ryan singing "doesn't matter what I do, I'm always nr #2" and then getting BSA with Margot snubbed... a reverse The Carters experience. 1

Respectfully, her performance was incredibly one-note and uninteresting. Her facial expressions were much the same throughout (aside from when she was singing) and there wasn’t enough nuance. Overall, Danielle Brooks and even Taraji P Henson obliterated her. I hate to compare but you watch Goldberg’s original interpretation of Celine and then Fantasia’s and there’s a massive difference. I guarantee if Cynthia Erivo took the role instead, she’d be sweeping up the acclaim. 1 1
ALA Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 So from SAG the ones that missed are Margot, Willem Dafoe and Penelope Cruz Actor was 5/5
playwithme Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 At least, Ukraine is getting some recognition.

Aside from Danielle Brooks’ great performance, and Taraji P Hendon’s presence, the film was nothing more than a useless cashgrab and did not need to be made at all. If you compare it to the original masterpiece, even in spite of this being a “musical” version, it completely fails in comparison. 1
hausofdave Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 Oppenheimer hit all 13 noms it could’ve gotten 3

That said, Erivo should’ve taken the role anyway (I know she didn’t due to “Wicked”). She won a Tony and Olivier award for the role. She would’ve easily gotten an Oscar nomination for it too seeing as she’s the only lead Black actress that the academy loves alongside Viola Davis and a Octavia Spencer currently. I really hope to see more Black/Asian/Latino lead actresses win more lead Oscar’s as the decade progresses. Edited January 23, 2024 by GoodGuyGoneGhetto
UnusualBoy Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 Wait America got a nom? I didn't see that one coming. I think Margot deserved but well. Emma Stone has BA on lock, doesn't she? Best Actor better go to Cillian.
