96th Academy Awards | Top Winners: Oppenheimer 7x, Poor Things 4x

Saw Emi Li's Poor Things this weekend and lmao what a weird ass movie. The audience at my showing skewed older for some reason and let me tell you those grannies were not ready for some of the scenes, the pearls were clutched for sure

Tbh I'm kinda conflicted, I found myself not being enthralled several times, it was hard for me to connect with the movie for some reason despite it being entertaining.  Lanthimos was giving 'Huh! Huh! I'm directing' at times, like ok we get it, I wouldn't mind him missing director if it means Triet gets in.

On the more positive note, the set designs were gorgeous, and the plot themes were similar to the Barbie's ones but done more successful imo. The acting was top notch (sans that philosopher guy on the boat); Emi Li deserves all the praise she's getting but I didn't find her performance undeniable enough to beat combo of Li Lee's perf and narrative + I'd put Huller above her too. She wouldn't be a bad winner tho by any means.

Also I didn't expect this to be as funny as it was  :dies:

If it wasn't for that fake nose, Julianne Moore should have won for Far From Heaven.

There is no justice in this world if Portman (I know she's already out anyway) and Huller both miss and Robbie gets in.

Which one is better: Robbie in Bombshell or Robbie in Barbie?

Call me crazy but I can't see Hüller getting double noms. For all the talk about the actor's branch being a bunch of basics, do we think that they'll go for that type of performance in that type of film?

Imo, it's reminiscent of De Leon last year.  A contender in a highbrow film that overperforms on nomination morning, but they still miss.

barbie. she wasn't even the best supp. female in bombshell (nicole was)

don't downvote me little robbie's but margot has always served mediocre except for a couple of scenes in i tonya

talking about the 2019 supp. actress race, it's such a shame none of the women from parasite got in that year. at least they won sag ensemble :bird:

If Hüller doesn't get nominated tomorrow for Anatomy of a Fall, I'm going to fume. She's spectacular in that film.

Sandra just won the Lumière Award (French Golden Globe) for Best Actress

I think she’s safe for at least Best Actress for Anatomy of a Fall, she will be the passion pick that enough people put at #1 on their ballots. I’m not as sure for Best Supporting Actress for The Zone of Interest but it’s possible.
