The perfect line up will be Lee, Stone, Gladstone, Huller, and Mulligan. Bening should have been snubbed lol. 1

What about y'all? I've seen most of the line up in theaters, except 'Past Lives', 'Holdovers' and 'Maestro' which I've seen online. I have no plan to move my ass to a theater to check the 2 movies I'm missing but 'American Fiction' is hitting digital next week so that's great timing. 'Zone of Interest' has no online date as of now, so it seems it will be the only movie I won't be able to see before Oscar night, and I probably won't even remember to check it out once awards season is over. So it's their loss 🤷 dumb release strategy This is my exact same situation.
QueenofCopyPaste Posted February 2, 2024 Posted February 2, 2024 Greta Lee's performance sadly is not Oscar friendly it's more subtle
Alyssa Edwards Posted February 2, 2024 Posted February 2, 2024 The true snub in the Actress category is Cailee Spaeny. And i say this as an OSCH. Past Lives should feel VERY lucky with the nominations it got. Aftersun outsold in every way and only got 1 nom. 1 1
CaptainMusic Posted February 2, 2024 Posted February 2, 2024 (edited) I just cannot understand the love for Greta Lee’s performance, I feel like I’m missing something as I see absolutely nothing in it and think Tee Yoo was vastly superior. There’s many great subtle performances: Ingrid Bergman in Casablanca Kristen Scott Thomas in The English Patient Casey Affleck in Manchester By The Sea Ruth Negga in Loving Rooney Mara in Carol etc And then there’s what Lee did in Past Lives - serviceable acting. She was rightfully snubbed IMO and Margot was better. Edited February 2, 2024 by CaptainMusic 2 1
Antisocialites Posted February 2, 2024 Posted February 2, 2024 Emma Stone in LLL is one of the best Best Actress winners of all time. Argue with a wall. 5 2
Liafen Posted February 2, 2024 Posted February 2, 2024 Voyter Nation needs to upload Anatomy on Netflix before Oscar voting starts. Imagine the collapse
kayliah Posted February 2, 2024 Posted February 2, 2024 Emma stone is winning this. She's the jodie foster type, young pretty actress who the industry love.Foster has more range and is better but still.
fridayteenage Posted February 2, 2024 Posted February 2, 2024 She's the second actress with four noms for bp+bd nominees After katharine
Komet Posted February 2, 2024 Posted February 2, 2024 Finally saw The Zone Of Interest and wow, I loved it. Such a different take on a holocaust movie, yet one of the most disturbing ones. The way true horror is never shown but yet it's constantly there created one of the most unique cinema experiences I had in a while, I have a feeling this one will stay with me for some time. The ending is phenomenal. 1
McNulty Posted February 3, 2024 Posted February 3, 2024 I just saw All Of Us Stranger, and I'm convinced that the Academy has a vendetta against Claire Foy. Also Jamie Bell gave a better supporting performance than Mescal and he'd have been talked about more.

Dr. Alexander Posted February 3, 2024 Posted February 3, 2024 I just got back from watching Poor Things. I went in knowing nothing about it, and I was completely disturbed but found the story very interesting. I couldn’t keep my eyes off of it. The cinematography and production design was incredible. It definitely tugged on Barbie’s plastic hair a little when it came to the overall look of the film. But, I am side eyeing the Academy for this being Emma’s next Oscar. She was really amazing in the role. If she wins, I’ll be glad. But it really speaks to how Hollywood rewards their young starlets when they basically do soft-porn on film. We saw it with Halle Berry and we see it here. It’s very…telling. 1
WildAmerican Posted February 4, 2024 Author Posted February 4, 2024 (edited) Just saw The Zone of Interest. It was truly incredible tho I can't say I enjoyed it too much. Feel like everyone should see it tho, the way it portrays the domesticity of evil while showing how it is created and maintained was truly fascinating! Edited February 4, 2024 by WildAmerican
Donquizote Posted February 4, 2024 Posted February 4, 2024 Thinking Emma will lose SAG, but will win BAFTA.
truthteller Posted February 4, 2024 Posted February 4, 2024 Finally watched Maestro.. a refreshing take on a biopic.. quite a lot of funky artsy fartsy takes (e.g. 4:3 ratio, black and white sequence, long shots etc.)... one may say that's oscars bait but these showy stuff is what keeps a biopic a bit more interesting at least... great performances from the cast but that's all about it... 3

So the fact that she won for a movie where she had explicit sex with a white guy is a mess. Most actresses do not win Best Actress for these kind of roles so if Emma does win, it won’t be problematic at all.

We don’t have to see actors’ genitals on screen to get the story across. It doesn’t bring anything to the film. The way my entire theater kept groaning and rolling their eyes in annoyance every time these explicit scenes played out (and I live in arguably the most progressive city in the States). Yorgos talked about he how sat down with Emma and told her “this is what Bella needs on film.” Is it though? Or is it that A) you just lack the ability in getting the point across in any other way and still be effective or B) you just want to see these actors in a certain way? For example, the particular scene where we see the man take Bella to the wall, and we see Stone’s entire nude body and then she is told to bend over and we see literally mostly everything. What was the point?
