Shakira gave Beyoncé her single with the most No. 1s around the world, a personal record for Beyonce which still stands to this day. meanwhile BL is not even in shakira's top 10 biggest hits.

Mostly her being the first artist people associate with the World Cup (most popular global event) and her YouTube numbers. Shes like the biggest female artist currently and has always been huge there from Waka Waka onwards (YouTube is the main streaming platform in Latin America, Asia and several other markets).

 

Tie that with her record sales and accolades and shes simply the bigger name.

I’d say they’re kinda equal. Shakira mostly being known for her Spanish songs hinders her a bit but her World Cup participations have definitely given her a global spotlight.

That’s not true. MENA countries are not the biggest populated. China and India alone outpopulate the entire Middle East.

2. It's in terms of NAME recognition, not actual commercial success. We're talking about as celebrities known for being singers.

 

Shakira is a bigger name in Central America, South America, Mexico, Spain, Portugal, Middle East, and Asia. Beyonce is a bigger name in USA, Canada, most of Europe, and UK. They're essentially tied in Africa and the Caribbean in my opinion (IN TERMS OF NAME RECOGNITION). Overall I'd say they're equally huge names globally. Beyonce is the more commercially successful artist bc she is bigger in the USA and UK, which is the leading metric of success in music, but this thread said NAME RECOGNITION specifically.

 

To deny Shakira is a global celebrity is insane. Why is it controversial to say she's just as global as Beyonce in terms of name.

No one said Shakira isn't global nor as relevant as Bey. It's actually the other way around in these 7 tired pages with the usual OBH saying Bey isn't as global as Shakira when the statistics says otherwise where Bey outclasses her overall in nearly every metric: record sales, chart peaks per country, streaming, touring (which was provided in this thread and purposefully ignored). Apparently he said she said, my -x- relative knows or likes -x- is a credible metric.  In name recognition, they're both pretty equal and it's clear in their massive social media followings.
