Based off name recognition alone, is Beyonce and Shakira on the same level globally?

Once you are a household name, you are pretty evenly known by the GP.  The difference in name value then is mostly driven by fans.

I’d argue even someone like Lady Gaga is kind of universally known globally even tho she’s not as commercially successful, name recognition has more to do with branding

Shakira is way more famous right now

 

Bey’s anti-promo tactics are catching up with her, her tour will be a massive success but her fame has been declining a bit for years.

 

Beyonce was easily the most famous woman in the world for some years in the 2010s, right now she’s far from it.

 

Overall I would say they are around the same, but Shakira is definitely the most global female after Madonna imo.

In Asia, it's Beyoncé by miles. The fact that she's more R&B/urban but managed to tap into the Asian market is crazy. 

 

In Japan for example, Destiny's Child is well known enough that their GH album sold 500K. As a solo artist, B's best selling album was B'day with 400K. In comparison, Shakira's English studio album Oral & Laundry barely sold 50K (when market was still good). Fun fact, they have their own Japanese Beyoncé! 

 

In South Korea, there are too many artists cited Beyoncé as influence. The best example would be Aileen,Hyolyn and Hwasa where they are called the Korean Beyoncé. Besides, B had million selling digital songs there such as Halo. On Korea Melon streaming app, Beyoncé was the #10 most streamed international female; despite 10 years of ditching pop music. 

 

Moving on to the Philippines,this is another country that stanned hard for Beyoncé. Rumour has it that Beyoncé's concert over there attracted over 70K people,which I believe at that time was a record. Charice,Sarah Geronimo are some of the artists that was inspired by Beyoncé; Listen was a karaoke staple in this country. 

 

Apart of this, Beyoncé has 500K followers on JOOX; 100K on QQ music; she was paid by Indian & Dubai billionaires to sing for their event. In Indonesia, one of the most famous singer, Agnes Monica cited Beyoncé as influence. In China, the singer G.E.M covered If I Were A Boy.  S.H.E literally had their own  version of Destiny's Child Brown Eyes! Sheila Amzah & Siti Nurhaliza, Malaysian singers also frequently covered Beyoncé's song. In addition, Beyoncé singing Halo in a hospital in Singapore went mega viral around 2016. 

 

These examples are just in Asia. Beyoncé was miles bigger in the US,Australia,New Zealand & the UK. In South Africa, there's no competition. 

 

Beyoncé was the first artist at that time that went #1 on iTunes in over 100 countries. She later did that again with Lemonade. A local star would not have that much power.

The cheating scandal happened literally a year ago. If they didn't care about Shakira, they wouldn't keep talking about her. The fact that she is still trending and scoring hits out of it proves the huge interest the GP has in her.
