the last of us only has 8 episodes so i don't think its a fair comparison yet, i may prefer the last of us once its finished but for right now i'd say the walking dead, mostly because i don't think it gets enough credit for all its achieved, i think its easy to forget how great those first 5 seasons were because frankly the later seasons were terrible but like someone mentioned the walking dead pulled of some of the most talked about and jaw dropping moments in television history.

i believe they were the first to put a character driven zombie apocalypse drama on tv so a lot of what they did felt fresh whereas with the last of us it doesn't feel like they are breaking new ground. the walking dead may not have had the kind of budget the last of us has but they certainly made the most of what they did have they had complex villains, the ensemble cast worked well together, they created iconic characters like rick, michonne, carol, daryl, glenn i mean they were bringing the drama. the love triangle between rick, lori and shane. sophia coming out of the barn, the farm getting overrun, the prison, one of the most tragic birth scenes, the governor beheading a beloved character, rick ripping out a guys throat, the look at the flowers moment, the rise of carol and terminus, cannibals, them having the ability to have you grow an attachment to a character and then being unafraid to kill off said character, sometimes killing major characters in back to back episodes, the whole introduction to alexandria has a special place in my heart and i hated this but ofc negan bashing in an ogs head with a baseball bat like even more recently when they had a villain decapitate 10 characters granted the characters that died weren't that important, but when the walking dead attempted a big shocking moment they came HARD. they pulled off so much. i feel when its all said and done the last of us will probably be more consistent but idk if it will ever reach the heights of the walking dead. i'll always have a special place for it. its a shame it became a victim of its own success because at its peak it was some of the most entertaining tv i've ever seen.

RT, really? :skull: Come on now. This would be like me cherry picking IMDB episode scores about no episode in the first season of TWD dropping to 8.0 or below.

That’s not the same thing at all. IMDb is a website where ANYBODY can leave a review for an episode. The Rotten Tomatoes score comes from verified reviewers. Why do you think recent Blu-ray releases have a “verified fresh” sticker on the front if Rotten Tomatoes holds no weight?

So no, it isn’t comparable to IMDb in the slightest

My main point, which still stands, is that if you were to compare only the first seasons of both shows, TLOU is doing objectively better as it has higher ratings and it’s a bigger hit with critics. That’s just a fact.

Like I said earlier, whether TLOU continues to smash is yet to be seen, but it’s currently doing great.

That wasn't...the point. I also mentioned cult following in my post (but the broader point is not so much that the tomato-meter is pointless, I even set up that IMBD false analogy to show you how arbitrary it is.)

It's like if I centered a post around how the Audience score on RT for respective Season 1 is higher for TWD. Again, this is a hypothetical - I understand why doing that is bad-faith.

As for ratings, I again said the market has wildly changed but I guess stan goggles. Again, I like TLoU a lot but as a last post I think the lack of objectivity is weird and unnecessary imo.

So many shows die with a whimper because they keep **** going on forever. Grey's, TWD, Supernatural (this one was even scheduled to end with 5 seasons lmao)

It's sad.

I mean, I am being objective. TLOU S1 is more critically acclaimed than TWD S1 and TLOU S1 has higher ratings than TWD S1. If anything, shows get lower ratings nowadays than they did when TWD premiered. That’s all I was saying.

I loved TWD in the earlier seasons and won’t say anything bad against it. Nothing I’m saying is shady, it’s just facts.

I only mentioned Rotten Tomatoes because you brought up acclaim. So I was simply showing how TLOU has already outdone TWD with critical acclaim, because no season of TWD has a 96% rating.

Supernatural never ended with a whimper tbh. Some of its best episodes / seasons came well past S5. So we can agree to disagree with that. Supernatural never had a bad season.
