The complaint was made to the senate's ombudsperson's office for equal treatment, demanding that women, like men, should be allowed to swim topless. The Berliner Baederbetriebe, which operates the city's public pools, has now changed its clothing rules to allow everyone to swim without covering their torsos. The decision has been welcomed as a step towards equal rights for all Berliners. It is not clear when the new rules will take effect.
