It’s known as Taylor’s “transition” album, but said transition was from country to pop; well over half of the album is still very much so country. I feel like this gets lost because of the pop singles (which were a first for her), and people forget Red produced her last actual country hits. Red went top two on the country charts, and Begin Again went top ten. Also, some of the vault tracks on the TV make it known she was still operating within the country music world even if she had one foot already in the pop world, as she was still collaborating with some prominent country writers.

All this, yes! Plus, even when rereleased under the context of Taylor having "gone pop" ages before, Red TV and most of its tracks charted on country genre Billboard charts - so there's definitely some industry support for considering it a country record even today.

Definitely. I mean, IBYTAM went #3 on the country chart and went Top 25 on the country airplay chart just off Taylor’s and Chris’s names alone; there was zero promotion for it besides the video (if you even consider that promo these days). Also, even Betty debuted at #6 on the country chart and went Top 40 on the country airplay chart, and that’s with it being released at the height of the pandemic and Taylor only performing it once at the ACMs and then completely ignoring it.

wren Posted March 8, 2023 Posted March 8, 2023 (edited) If Red Taylor Version was a new album (like not a rerecording) and had 6 more tracks to the already 30 on the record, it would have beat it I believe. Edited March 8, 2023 by wren
Chartman Posted March 8, 2023 Posted March 8, 2023 An artist who is at his absolute career peak tops an artist who was 15 years in the game and released a rerecording. Good for him.

Enrique523 Posted March 10, 2023 Posted March 10, 2023 I love Taylor to death but i honestly don't consider Red to be a country album. Also, Morgan has ZERO crossover hits, his success is entirely fueled by Trump lovers in the south.
