Whis Posted August 29 Posted August 29 I'm on my way to watch this movie for the 2nd time Spoiler Hyped to see everyone react to the reveal of that abomination at the end
Dula Peep Posted August 29 Posted August 29 Going with a younger, hotter cast was def a good call… hard to root for a group of old overweight balding men 2
qurl Posted August 29 Posted August 29 kinda bummed how well this did relative to my general apathy for it …. feel like there gonna make another one with just as much fan service and remake-y aspects for a younger crowd instead of going for new ideas like what Prometheus did it's squarely a fine film , i'd give it a 5/10 for being completely average but i might have liked it even less than Covenant … and i really didn't like that one when it first came out 1

publikcitizen Posted August 29 Posted August 29 I hope there is a possibility of doing a hybrid sequel to Romulus and Covenant

He held back a bit imo

We need another Ripley movie there's really not a feasible way this would work without employing some stupid multiverse $h!t that i'm not interested it …. i mean you literally see everything that happens to ripley in the course of the first three movies , and that's why i think 4 is maligned bc they managed to get sigorney back and have "ripley" without it actually being her , but otherwise …. i mean the character is pretty certifiably dead

They could pull a Halloween 2018 and do a sequel to Aliens and pretend 3 and 4 didn't happen.
Jotham Posted August 31 Posted August 31 I enjoyed this much more than I expected! A lot of it feels like a redux of the original movie but I think I prefer this cast and I like that they introduced some new aliens. I was kinda worried because I hated Don't Breathe but Álvarez did a great job with this movie. Also in that one scene where they had to increase the room temperature to their body temperature I got excited because I thought Archie Renaux was gonna take off his shirt
Smarticle Posted August 31 Posted August 31 I was just watching someone playthrough of Alien: Isolation and i think the whole plot point was ripped off with the: Spoiler -the ship crash landing into a planet/planet's rings -the elevator(s) falling - although it's probably a reference to the game like the emergency telephones but i guess most of the other movies are referenced in here too
Broken Posted September 1 Posted September 1 (edited) - Highest-grossing horror movie of the year. - 2nd highest-grossing movie of the franchise. Edited September 1 by Broken 4 2

I'm currently in the middle of my second play through of the game but it takes me months to get through it because I take long breaks between my sessions sometimes.
Tylerbv Posted September 2 Posted September 2 I liked the movie but as a non-die hard fan of the franchise, I felt like I missed some stuff. Part of me is curious about the game now though
Scandalous Posted September 2 Posted September 2 hmmmm me and the 2 friends i saw it with were all pretty meh about it, but none of us had see any Alien films before so maybe that impacted it. it was entertaining enough and visually stunning but i personally just prefer more plot and this was just a lot of action scenes

Life Savers Posted September 9 Posted September 9 Finally saw it and I liked it . The gravity scene ate. 1
Pop Art Posted September 12 Posted September 12 I'm embarrassed to say as a pretty big fan of the franchise that I JUST saw this last weekend, but my god, I was SO relieved that it's AMAZING since it really could have gone either way. Spoiler I love how they kept the prequel lore going with the black liquid, and in fact this is the first time we saw it directly related to actual xenomorphs I believe, which was awesome because it kept that portion of the story moving forward instead of just having it be a callback. I also loved how we now finally got an answer for why the company was so hell bent on capturing and studying the xenomorphs. I was also pleasantly surprised they explained what I never even thought to really ask — how exactly a xenomorph evolved from the chestburster stage to full grown adult so quickly. The fact that the "cocoon" it did this in fit SO perfectly with other xenomorph imagery and iconography is just...perfection. Like everyone else, I was GAGGED at the ending portion of the film. I'm so glad they had that creature end up looking sort of like a deformed Engineer, it kind of ties it all back into the lore theory that the black liquid is a failed creation by them to replicate the blood of the First Deacon (iykyk) that ends up only creating abominations instead of proper life. I still think I would have preferred another prequel film to further that lore, but I am very satisfied with what this one did. Hoping the TV series coming next year can live up to this.
Hobbes Posted September 22 Posted September 22 FINALLY saw this yesterday. I'm a fan of the franchise and have watched all of the previous movies (except the Predator crossovers) and I was pleasantly surprised by this! We watched the original film the night before as a refresher for my friend who hadn't seen any of the films in years. Positive: Spoiler Loved that they stayed true to the 70s-vision of futuristic technology. Glass screens, pixelated graphics, etc. I think some of the graphics like the countdown were lifted from the originals which was a nice touch. Also the opening credits were a nice homage to the originals. The colony backstory was cool. I half expected the pregnant woman to end up back at the colony and give birth to a xenomorph on the planet and set up for a sequel. This felt like the first film to really lean into the horror and gore aspects, unless I'm forgetting some particularly gruesome sequences in previous films. The burst scenes in Covenant were quite intense but the X-ray scene in Romulus was absolutely horrifying. I think they used the audience's existing dread and expectations to dial up the horror. The facehugger defrost scene was great. Love that we got an explanation as to how the xenomorphs grow so quickly. The cocoon scene aligning with them trying to keep quiet was really nicely done. I genuinely felt stressed from the moment they first encounter the facehuggers right up until the end of the film. It just didn't let up at all. The sound design. Negative: Spoiler I didn't love the way they brought back Ian Holm. The CGI looked a bit like a PlayStation character at times and they could have stuck to a low-quality image on a screen or perhaps even a disfigured/damaged face prosthetic so it didn't look as uncanny. Some of the script was a bit clunky. The annoying guy going on and on about synthetics not being real people felt a bit heavy handed. From then Rain decides to go back into the nest to save Andy to when they climb up the elevator shaft felt very Hollywood cheese and too heroic. Really bogged down that act. The final xenomorph/human hybrid wasn't scary enough. It should have either looked like the hybrid from Resurrection or at least closer to a xenomorph. I get why it had a humanoid face but it just looked a bit silly in my opinion. The design they went for reminded me of the Lazarus Experiment monster from Doctor Who.
