I would agree with your post Please do not respond! Go choke on a dick My god, you’re a ******* idiot. I lumped her with those hasbeens to emphasise how impressive her longevity is, what’s not clicking? Beyoncé and Britney had top 10 hits recently and don’t do Latin music like she does so they don’t apply, but yes they along with Xtina who she obviously outlasted are also her peers. We all know that. It’s the same way Beyoncé is constantly said to have outlasted Ashanti, Rihanna outlasted Ciara, etc despite them both having much more high profile peers. But stay mad over nothing.

A.R.L Posted March 4, 2023 Posted March 4, 2023 (edited) Not surprised she’s re-peaking, she has the largest dedicated fanbase, hands down. Shakira is easily the most successful/biggest latin artist of her generation if not of all time. She's also the most popular female artist after Michael Jackson, I've seen people talk about her in places where no one listens to Western, Latin or Spanish music and literally doesn't know anyone else but her and Michael Jackson. And to answer him beyonce got a top10 but neither of her two hits had the impact of the last songs released by shakira who is doing all of this without having the biggest pr machine behind her (i mean, it's easier if you're from the usa and every media and celebrity spents days kissing your ass)

Go choke on a dick this meltdown embarrassing to have so many feelings for what are simply FACTS. also a quick google search points out enrique has sold 150m records worldwide while Shakira has 60m (even ricky is slightly above her in terms of total worldwide sales, womp womp). again, shakira outlasted and impacted, but to say shes on this completely different level is delusional fan behavior Edited March 5, 2023 by jjmed59

Protocol Posted March 5, 2023 Posted March 5, 2023 Anyone who thinks this is a repeak was not sentient during Shakira's heyday in the 2000s. I mean c'mon. Not to burst the bubble but she is only getting these hits right now because she is riding the coattails of hotter current artists from Rauw Alejandro to Bizzarap or however you spell his name and Karol G. And the Pique tabloid drama obviously helps a lot. But let's be honest, solo Shakira would not be doing nearly this well. And it's been a successful strategy for her. But it does not mean she is anywhere near Laundry Service or Hips Don't Lie days.
Protocol Posted March 5, 2023 Posted March 5, 2023 1 hour ago, Lorelei said: But this site vehemently states she's local to spanish speaking countries and nobody checks for her outside LatAM. She is not local to LATAM because she has global classics like Hips Don't Lie, but her current success is indeed local to Spanish-speaking audiences. The number of Latinos has increased dramatically in America in the last 20 years and the proliferation of cheap smartphones and cheap streaming services means Latinos who previously only illegally downloaded music or streamed it off YouTube now stream it on Spotify on their phone and it counts for the charts. But the number of non-Spanish speakers in America who is listening to these songs is minimal.

Talent always wins? One thing I think people ignore is this, the rise of the Latin listening base on a global level on non-Youtube streaming platforms. The rise of Bad Bunny, Shakira, Karol G, Rosalia, etc. is proof of the latin consumer base finally transitioning and catching up to the listening behaviors of their anglo counterparts. Its the reason why songs like that BZRP something something gets so much US traction, because the US based latin consuming audience is finally using Spotify, AM, Amazon, Pandora, etc. the way many English consuming audience did for years. Economically, this could be explained by the stiff competition in the smartphone market, the LatAm market has always been one of the biggest alongside Asia in the Android expansion, as seen in the illustration below. The 2020s saw a MASSIVE spike in the smartphone Android market in China, LatAm while Apple remains strong in the big 3 music markets UK, GER, US, JP (which has an isolated market by themselves, an anomaly) http://cdn.statcdn.com/Infographic/images/normal/22702.jpeg K-pop and Bollywood are the last bastion of the big YouTube videos, given most of Asia and India's relatively poor economic status compared to its massive population size, access to YouTube streaming is still the convenient answer. Even then, with the rise of BLACKPINK, NewJeans and BTS the K-pop audience is also slowly transitioning to Spotify and AM as well. Once Spotify India takes off, this'll even the playing field even more. Shakira's inarguably biggest global smash in years, 2016s Chantaje which is a ******* banger mind you, would've easily destroyed the Hot 100 had it had Maluma's mid 2010s popularity + today's streaming climate. That song and many other 2010s Shakira hits came at a time when YouTube ruled Asia and LatAm, whlle the UK, US, AUS and many of the big markets already had Drake, Cardi B, Ariana Grande, Future choking the on-demand streaming charts. Jmo21 Posted March 5, 2023 Posted March 5, 2023 Nope not surprised. Local Shakira will continue to starve her English fanbase yet folks will camp to sing in Spanish in “local” (to her) places like Moscow or Istanbul for example.
