Virgos Groove Posted March 1, 2023 Posted March 1, 2023 (edited) Quote The law, which would extend to the West Bank, would be issued by instruction by the Defense Minister to the Israel Defense Forces. A military court judge in the relevant region would sentence the terrorist to death, and can be passed with a simple majority of judges on the bench. It would not be possible to reduce the sentence. Quote Civil rights organizations like Adalah - the legal center for the rights of the Arab minority in Israel, also opposed the bill, saying that it was "designed to bring human rights violations to an extreme, and which is directed exclusively at Palestinians." Adalah said that both the opposition and coalition were creating two legal systems based on race. The Jerusalem Post This is absolutely insane, but sadly not surprising coming from an apartheid state like Israel. Edited March 1, 2023 by Virgos Groove

Mikeymoonshine Posted March 1, 2023 Posted March 1, 2023 Worth remembering Israel has a kangaroo court system too, it's vile how this is all being allowed to happen. South African apartheid all over again and once again supported by the west.
Aethereal Posted March 1, 2023 Posted March 1, 2023 They are killing innocent Palestinians left and right I am not sure if this bill is going to make things any worse.
Communion Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 Change the title from "Israel" to "Iran" and this thread would be 5+ pages already with posts like "religion of peace!!!". Claims of unspeakable evils dominate the US media when the subjects are countries deemed to be enemy states, even when the evidence is hearsay or insubstantial. And this isn't to deny human rights violations in countries like Syria or Iran or even China, but to show that the American government has just no credibility on the subject of human rights when the burden of proof is so tangibly low that grainy satellite images or testimonial is enough to justify sanctions on countries for poor human rights records, even if likely true, but then the burden of proof is not the same for Israel. For Israel, we can have 4k HD footage of communities set ablaze, famous journalists or American citizens murdered in broad daylight, and the Israeli government itself confirming its goal is an ethnic cleansing - yet the answer is that to criticize a Jewish supremacist state is "antisemitic" and American taxpayers will fund genocide. Reactionaries have brainwashed themselves with terms like "Western values" and "democracy" that they truly believe it's democracy for Palestinians to be able to film their homes being burned down or for news camera to catch one of their own being assassinated via sniper. Even now, as Israel takes a farther right turn into fascism than it has in decades, Western liberalism defends atrocities akin to the horrors of Rhodesia. The desire to cleanse Israel of the Palestinian people is ramping up and I fear we're not far off from it being a majority-held belief to call for the extermination of the Palestinian people.
HungryByTheBuffet Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 None of you are at all aware the current government in Israel is quite literally dismantling the democracy which 70% of the population is AGAINST even people who voted for the current government who are now attempting to turn it into a dictatorship, there are riots and protests on the streets, this is one of the laws that are being passed in a series of laws undermining the court system and the way laws will be passed and the power a select few in the government will be able to hold and keep their positions and have complete power over the country. I know none of you actually care about what goes on in the middle east and feel cute posting things for woke points despite the US still having capital punishment and giving it away more liberally which is cruel and inhuman, but please at least attempt to research recent events if you plan on discussing them, as a South African Israeli who's mom quite literally grew up in the apartheid in the late 50s throughout, I can tell you the current situation is not the same as there are no "winners" from this situation right now, only losers and the government. And generally while there are MANY comparisons to SA's apartheid period it's never been identical in terms such as jobs and financial means or day to day segregation, just the plain racism that Arab israelis experience that is deep rooted in mainly older generations who were born here. The minister who "proposed" this bill is quite literally a terrorist who cited hate against Yitzhak Rabin and wished he would be assassinated before he was, not that I expect any of you will know who that even was, but he was a prime minister who was making real progress for peace and a 2 state solution before his assassination The current situation is extremely similar to what is going on in Hungary but with the added mess that is the political climate, war, religion, radical right, and mass division, it's a big mess that I'm afraid none of you will have enough knowledge or experience to discuss, but to sum a bit more up for you, after 4 or more elections where a government could not be formed, young liberals got sick of voting and this is how this mess started.

And that such ascension into being "Western" relied heavily on deploying anti-Arab racism, something you admit is culturally dominant! Citing a parent being South African to claim they have some expertise on apartheid despite apartheid-era South Africa being one of the first times European Jews enjoyed being socially and legally classified as white. Which means, given that Jewish communities in South Africa were largely European, the expertise you're asking us to believe comes from someone likely part of the settler European demographic who benefited directly from colonization and the anti-black policies of apartheid And that we should ignore the modern consensus amongst black and progressive voices in South Africa finding that the Palestinian struggle against apartheid is of the same character as what was experienced by those who lived during apartheid-era South Africa. The downplaying of Palestinian suffering by suggesting "everyone is losing" to essentially whitewash the disparities in Palestinians making up the vast majority of those killed and injured in this "conflict". Let alone that, the entire point of subjugating the Palestinian population is to materially benefit the citizens of the Israel settler state. How are average Israelis not materially benefitting from apartheid if the illegal settlements are subsidized by the government to where people whose family haven't stepped foot in the Middle East for 500+ years can claim the right of return, migrate to Israel on subsidies, and be given a home that more often than not had previously belonged to an evicted Palestinian family? I get wanting to emphasize that there are indeed Israelis who reject the ethno-supremacist stance of their institutions and government - no matter how few or politically unrepresented they become as time goes on - but you can't shout that people are ignoring "nuance" while at the same time trying to dupe people into ignoring that there would be no illegal settlements built on Palestinian homes without willing and complicit settlers. Or ignore that this was always going to be the end result for a state whose end goal is a perpetual artificial ethnic majority.
A.R.L Posted March 4, 2023 Posted March 4, 2023 Would that also include the terrorist who killed Sherine Abu Akle, and all the innocent children and people who did nothing except being Palestinians?
