The series tells the story of Dre, a young woman who is obsessed with a fictional pop star (whose oeuvre and aesthetic are very similar to pop star Beyoncé). The show is a dive into Dre’s life, her fandom, and how it takes her to dark, unexpected places.

 

Glover Cited Martin Scorsese’s 1982 film The King of Comedy as a reference point for the new series. The film, starring Robert De Niro and Jerry Lewis, follows a similarly obsessed man who goes to troubling lengths (i.e. kidnapping, and eventually prison time) to launch his own comedy career.

 

“We just thought it’d be fun to make a post-truth Piano Teacher mixed with The King of Comedy,” Glover told the magazine. The former, directed by Michael Haneke and based on Elfriede Jelinek’s book, won multiple Cannes Film Festival awards upon its debut in 2001 under the French title La Pianeste.

 

The cast of Swarm also includes Chlöe Bailey, Damson Idris, Rickey Thompson, Paris Jackson, Rory Culkin, Kiersey Clemons, and Byron Bowers.

They're both about Beyonce (unfortunately), so of course they have some similarities.  They can't say that they made up Beyonce's fan base
