Why does she have only 1 main category Grammy then? That seems weird for someone so universally liked within the industry.

Because racism exists :coffee2:

So she is universally liked by everyone except racists? How did Lizzo, H.E.R and Jon Batiste got their awards? Are they even more universally liked than Beyonce or do racists only hate Bey for some reason?

You would think Lizzo, H.E.R and John Baptiste are winning the general field every year. The length y'all go just to discredit this woman is something else.

Why is a black woman just recently winning record of the year award since the last one 24 years ago? Why does Aretha Franklin doesn't have any general field nomination ever? Was she not respected by the entire industry?

No miss Franklin wasn't respected by the industry.:bird:

OT: Not Beyonce being the most celebrated musician this century. Why is hive always spreading lies?

Is this an actual question? You can be well like and there can still be bias against you, the kind of music you make, or even your race.

  • Lizzo being the first Black Woman to win Record of the Year since Whitney Houston nearly 30 years ago says a lot.
  • A Black woman not having won Album of the Year for nearly a quarter of a century says a lot.

That just leaves Song of the Year which Beyoncé has won. And Best New Artist which I believe she was ineligible for.

But all this doesn't matter because awards don't say if you're liked within the industry. Clearly she is. I'm not sure why you're trying to say that because a voting body that has been proven to have bias (or at least for a long time have an unequal share of white male voters than any other demographic) is evidence that she is not as liked as people say she is.

Why are you talking about lies but not backing anything you say up? To claim that Aretha wasn't respected in the industry is kinda ridiculous if you're not willing to explain why someone called The Queen of Soul wasn't respected despite being an inspiration to nearly every R&B/soul artist that came after her and even those that aren't of the genre, routinely having Respect land at the high end of any "Best Song of All Time" list, etc. etc. etc.

So who is the most celebrated musical this century to you?

I don't know for a fact if Beyoncé is the most celebrated, and obviously as a fan I think so but I do think there are good points in her favour:

  • Having started this century with iconic pop hits like Say My Name, Jumpin', Jumpin' Independent Women, Survivor, and Bootylicious, basically from day one of the 2000s she was on top and in such a way that as a girl group she was not necessarily looked down upon as pop "fluff" but there was among even elder generations a respect for the talent of Destiny's Child
  • Going solo, having one of the most widely praised songs of the 2000s as her lead single (Crazy in Love) and becoming an instant solo superstar with class, determination and a display of talent, she set up her career for what it would become, even if at the time she was more regarded as a popstar than an artist.
  • Her continued solo success into IASF had her breaking Grammy-wins-in-a-single-night record that she herself had co-set (tying Alanis in 2004 and breaking the record ing 2010) further set her up as a respected pop icon.
  • And after 4, Beyoncé began perhaps the most celebrated run of solo projects a popstar has ever had with back-to-back-to-back-to-back highly regarded projects by critics, fans, the GP and the industry alike:
    • BEYONCÉ (2013) set up a new era for not just herself but the industry as well: musically, artistically, commercially
      • we have seen COUNTLESS surprise releases now, and several big name visual albums following her path
    • Lemonade (2016) is Peabody-winning work that furthered her artistry to such a degree that it nearly overshadowed her last album in terms of what a pop record/visual work can do.
      • The diary-style has been replicated by other artists, and the political commentary has also become much more of a mainstay in pop after she set forth in that direction (such as the subsequent #1 that followed in Formation's footsteps: This Is America)
    • Homecoming (2019) is perhaps the most celebrated live album of the century so far, as well as being one of the most consumed live albums. This is a unique achievement for a popstar: to be so widely recognized by critics and the general public for a concert documentary.
    • RENAISSANCE (2022) furthered her artistic aims and has proven the music works just a well without visuals. Her artistry in conceiving of fully formed albums is evident here, and people took notice for that very reason.

All in all, she has the hits, the commercial era, the artistic era, and the rare thing that is knowing your brand so well that you never have to majorly change, but can adjust sounds and styles at your whim and still pull it off in your own way.

looking at the rihanna performance and how the media works today, seems like they have to do the bare minimum

Aretha Franklin didn't have any nomination at the GF of the Grammy's. This clearly indicates that she wasn't respected by the industry. Roberta Flack won two back to back ROTYs , Tina Turner won pop, RnB, rock Grammy's categories meanwhile miss Franklin won cute RnB categories and that's it.

OT: Another embarrassing thread trying to portray miss Knowles as this untouchable goddess.

Aretha Franklin has inspired so many vocalists and is a legend to the eyes of millions of people.

She never needed the validation of the old racist white trash at the Grammys commitee who only give R&B, Rap and Hip-Hop awards to black people and keep the general field awards for the mayonnaise.

And no, giving one GF award to one black artist once every 20 years does NOT change that.
