Chinese Spy Balloon Found In America; Finally Gets Shut Down in Atlantic Ocean

WASHINGTON - The United States has detected what it says is a Chinese surveillance balloon that has been hovering over the northwestern United States, the Pentagon said on Thursday, a discovery that comes days before Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken's visit to Beijing.

The Pentagon has chosen, for now, not to shoot down the balloon after a recommendation from senior defense officials that doing so would risk debris hitting people on the ground, according to a senior defense official who was not authorized to speak publicly.

Pentagon officials said the balloon traveled from China to the Aleutian Islands near Alaska, and through northwest Canada over the past few days before arriving somewhere over Montana, where it was hovering on Wednesday.

It was unclear what China was looking for in Montana, but the state is home to the 341st Missile Wing at Malmstrom Air Force Base, one of three American Air Force bases that operate and maintain intercontinental ballistic missiles.

The Pentagon sent F-22 fighter jets to track the balloon Wednesday, leading to flights being temporarily grounded at the Billings airport, the official said, but decided against shooting down the balloon.

I applaud the Chinese for doing their spying using a method that would appear to have quite a low carbon footprint.

 

The United States has spy planes and other expensive and high emissions methods to spy on almost every country, including their allies. This goes back to the early cold war days with Gary Powers and the U2 spy plane, continuing with the SR-71 Blackbird and now using drones and satellites.

 

The US Armed forces creates more carbon emissions than the entire carbon emissions of many small countries, including Sweden, Norway, Finland and New Zealand.

 

 

 

But with all this expense and destruction to the planet, Americans are worried about a balloon?

The subject is being changed, because this is about a Chinese balloon in the air. It has nothing to do with the environment or emissions.

 

Secondly, if that is the case as you say. China is being just as evil as the US by invading the air space of other countries in Latin America to spy. When much of LA has been neutral to China. As I said before, this a classic imperialism. China should leave Latin America alone.

The original post talks about Montana / Northwest USA, so maybe there are Chinese balloons elsewhere, but this is not what this thread is about.

The Balloon appears to be flying at 60,000 feet/18 km above the earth, so no commercial flights up there.

Did anyone die? Is anyone being harmed?

 

If not, then this isn't really evil, it's like someone that parks their car on a no parking zone, or drives through a stop sign, because they thought they could get away without being seen on a quiet morning with no traffic around.

 

If you want real evil, try the NRA or countries that sell arms to middle eastern dictators.

 

Or the people that use an incident like this to lobby for increased Military spending when there are genuine needs in areas like healthcare

The balloons were found in Latin America also, which is more inline with this topic than emissions. China also sells arms to rather troubling countries like Myanmmar, Pakistan, etc. Again, I don't even see how weapon trade has anything to do with this topic.

 

In fact, the more you sideline to say the US does this, there's also proof that China does it too. Which again shows that the US and China are forces of evil in this world and need to be removed.
