• luckystrike - 9 - I like it! I think she does a great job at detailing all the strangers around her.
• Rotunda - 8.5 - This works for me, though there’s a lot of extraneous stuff here that doesn’t get to the heart of the theme 
• supaspaz - 8 - About half the song superbly encapsulates the theme. Then she starts reading the newspaper and enjoying cathedral bells.

 

Arctic Monkeys - When The Sun Goes Down

• luckystrike - 10 - Pretty much perfect for the theme.
• Rotunda - 10 - Good job 
• supaspaz - 10 - Hits every element of the prompt.

 

Joni Mitchell - Barangrill

• luckystrike - 7.5 - Not very on the nose, and the strangers feel more like secondary thoughts, but it’s fine.
• Rotunda - 8 - This could do with a little more fantasizing/pontificating, but the Barangrill seems to be the focus here 
• supaspaz - 8 - Plenty of observation, but this entry would be stronger if Joni wondered more about who this waitress is.

 

Katy B - Aaliyah (feat. Jessie Ware)

• luckystrike - 2 - I don’t see it unfortunately.
• Rotunda - 4.5 - Jolene DUPE! Anyway, there’s minimal fantasizing/theorizing about Aaliyah, who may or may not be a stranger, she’s just watching from a distance 
• supaspaz - 3 - The narrator knows Aaliyah’s name, so how much of a stranger can she really be?

 

Morrissey - Hairdresser on Fire

• luckystrike - 6.5 - It’s kinda weird to me, I guess I do see why it fits but I’m not very convinced since it’s pretty ambiguous.
• Rotunda - 8 - I’m kinda on the fence about this one. Are they a stranger? Is there a clear sensual double meaning? 
• supaspaz - 9 - Surprisingly funny, with an intriguing double meaning.

 

Stereophonics - Local Boy In The Photograph

• luckystrike - 8 - I mean, sure. Very surface level.
• Rotunda - 9 - I just wish there was more detail here
• supaspaz - 10 - Devastatingly beautiful. This is more diffuse than the other songs this round to which I gave the highest score, but its impact is just as strong.

Castaways, welcome to the sixth challenge of Survivor: ATRL Edition - Fans vs. Favorites!

 

Tribal immunity is back up for grabs...  but only for ONE tribe! That's right, this round is a dreaded double elimination. Two tribes will be heading to tribal council, and each losing tribe will vote off a member.

 

As always, The highest scorer on each tribe will also receive immunity. Let’s get started!

 

 

The theme for Round 6 is...

Fighting With My Family

 

"Cause through the drama, I can always depend on my mama"

 

This round, we are going for something (hopefully) a little bit easier than last round! In a game filled with plenty of drama, let's take a look at some family-specific conflict. We want songs where the narrator discusses having a poor relationship with a parent (or both parents). However, despite disagreements and fights with their parent(s), the narrator recognizes that they still love, respect, and appreciate their parent(s).
 

What To Do:
Once your song is selected, PM both of the hosts the artist and title of your song on Discord in our group DM. You don't have to include a link to the song unless you are sending a specific version of it. There's no explanation needed as your song should speak for itself. If your song requires an explanation to make sense, it's not a good fit.

 

There are plenty of you playing this game. You guys are bound to submit the same songs at some point and because no one can occupy the same song, we encourage you to send a back-up choice along with your first pick. This applies especially to those who are not around when a round is posted and don't have the luxury of choosing an instant track.

 

IMPORTANT NOTE: ONCE YOU SEND A SONG THAT IS AVAILABLE, YOUR CHOICE IS LOCKED AND YOU MAY NOT SWITCH. AGAIN, YOU CANNOT SWITCH SONGS. IF SOMEONE TAKES YOUR SONG FIRST, THAT IS WHEN YOU WILL BE ABLE TO SUBMIT A NEW ONE, SO PLEASE SUBMIT A BACK-UP.

 

Take Into Consideration:
The panel will judge the audio/lyrics of the track you submit. Music videos will not increase or decrease your score as some music video plots differ from a song's true meaning.

The theme is what is important here. You will not receive a low score because you sent in a song one of the judges does not like. Taste will at the most be the difference between an 8.5 or a 9. We will never dock off multiple points based off mere preference.

The song you choose should display the meaning upfront. An interview with your artist clarifying the meaning of the song will not be taken into consideration.

 

Judging Scale (May Vary By Judge):
9/10 – Great entry. Track displays the theme given head on.
8 – Good entry. Displays theme well but not as well as others.
7 – Okay entry. Fits decently but is missing something overall.
6 – Somewhat tackles the theme but falls flat.
5 – Track mentions theme but is otherwise off–base.
3/4 – Song does not hit the theme given besides a line or two.
1/2 – Song has to do with a completely different subject than the theme.

 

We will supply an example for each round for you all to take inspiration from. Obviously no one can select this song as their entry.

 

The example for this round is “Dear Mama” by 2Pac.

 

 

 

In this track, 2Pac details the beef that he had with his mother, noting the things that she did that caused him stress as a child. He blamed her for things that went wrong, called out her addiction to crack cocaine, and noted their fights and even getting kicked out. He ultimately comes to the conclusion that even though their relationship was imperfect, he still loves her. He appreciates all the things that she did for him as a child, and acknowledges how good it feels to now say thank you as an adult.
