Henry Torres Posted January 30, 2023 Posted January 30, 2023 (edited) Personally I find every historical period fascinating to some degree I like reading about ancient history, middle ages, Renaissance, Baroque, Enlightenment, Victorian, old Hollywood etc. Lately, I've been reading a lot about the Tudors I don't really have a favorite historical period but maybe it will change one day. What about u? Edited January 30, 2023 by Henry Torres
Bonicap Posted January 30, 2023 Posted January 30, 2023 1st Century BC (Roman Empire), 16th Century (Spanish Empire and religion wars) and 20th century (because of recency bias I guess)
ButterflyXIII Posted January 30, 2023 Posted January 30, 2023 Probably the 2010s because gay approval was on the rise. Now that’s all in the past.

XxxKatyCatxxX Posted January 30, 2023 Posted January 30, 2023 3000 B.C. - I remember in school when the teacher told us that in Ancient Egypt cats were viewed as magical creatures - they caught my interest. Everything about this civilization it's so fascinating. The aesthetic, art and architecture just captivates me. Also, their mythology is a top-notch - they saw divinity in everything. Oh, and their relationships are so messy and interesting.
IBeMe Posted January 30, 2023 Posted January 30, 2023 Religion wars era so mostly medieval era for Europe and the Middle East and then for Japan specifically I love the Feudal Era. Otherwise I really need to study some more of other Asian and Sub Saharan civilizations. My fascination mostly stems around Europe, Middle East, North Africa and Japan with the occasional interest in China, India and the Malaya archipelago but otherwise I am not interested in North American and Latin American history except for pre colonial stuff but there doesn’t seem to be enough work written on that period devoid of European colonial perspectives.
Mr.Link Posted January 31, 2023 Posted January 31, 2023 That brief period between the End of Cold War and the 2008 crisis where neoliberalism ran free and we didn’t have people doing shitty dances and voicing their two cents on a Chinese app.

RobDeWittBukater Posted January 31, 2023 Posted January 31, 2023 (edited) The Edwardian era (1900 to 1914 right before WW I began) because the juxtaposition of rigid post-Victorian social structures and attitudes with ultra-modern technology (cinemas, subways, planes, cars, fridges, telephones, electric lamps) is super fascinating. And I personally also find the fashion, art, engineering and architecture of this era to be an absolute serve. The perfect marriage between neo-classicism and modernity : I also have to share this amazingly entertaining first-hand-account of a woman who got plastic surgery in 1910 https://www.edwardianpromenade.com/beauty/getting-pretty-quick-or-plastic-surgery-in-1910/ The good lady went THRU it but she was satisfied with the results! Pop Life Posted February 2, 2023 Posted February 2, 2023 (edited) Weimar Germany has been a recent obsession of mine given the enlightened cultural attitudes around sexuality and expression (for the time) and the resulting backlash and unimaginable horrors that came after. Maybe it's because I'm afraid we're seeing the beginnings of a similar backlash now? I know it was alot more complex than that, but still. I also really love the late 70s/early 80s for a similar reason. It was the last hurrah for a generation of gay people before AIDS transformed entire communities into graveyards. I always wonder if the modern gay community might be more healthy today if we hadn't lost so many older people that could have been role-models. Edited February 2, 2023 by Pop Life
