HausOfPunk Posted January 29, 2023 Posted January 29, 2023 The Kennedy Center Honors are annual honors given to those in the performing arts for their lifetime of contributions to American culture. The executive committee of the board of trustees selects the honoree recipients based on excellence in music, dance, theater, opera, motion pictures or television. They have been presented annually since 1978, culminating each December in a gala celebrating five honorees in the Kennedy Center Opera House in Washington, D.C that is usually attended by the President and First Lady. Previous musical recipients include Barbra Streisand, Cher, Aretha Franklin, Dolly Parton, Gloria Estefan, Ella Fitzgerald and Julie Andrews. Artists are typically honored later in life (usually 50 or 60+ years old when they receive the honor). The honorees don't have to be American born or US citizens, but their artistic contributions must have enriched American culture in a significant way. Do you think your fave will receive a Kennedy Center Honor in the future? Why or why not?
vuelve88 Posted January 29, 2023 Posted January 29, 2023 (edited) Shakira doesn’t need it. President Obama visited one of Shakira’s schools in Colombia and she honored him. Edited January 29, 2023 by vuelve88
JoeAg Posted January 29, 2023 Posted January 29, 2023 Kate DEFINITELY will, I can see it happening this decade of my other favs, I could see St. Vincent, Taylor, Björk, Janelle Monáe, Gaga, Weyes Blood, and Perfume Genius all eventually (keyword) getting there. the first 5 of those first of course
GreatestLoveofAll Posted January 30, 2023 Posted January 30, 2023 No, they never induct entetainers who have passed so Whitney wont be getting one. I think none of our faves are even close to being ready fro one tho so kinda a dull thread. Janet could be honored in like 2030. Tyler Perry is up on the list too, actually. Jay-Z as well which means Beyonce wont be too far behind when she turns 60 or sum... Madonna should get one but I heard she isnt a fan of them lifetime awards and idk if she's too controversial to get one.
