Inflation: works harder than your parents, but purchasing power is lower?

I would never say I worked harder than my parents, as they were immigrants that lived paycheck to paycheck while raising 3 kids. They were however able to buy and pay-off a townhouse, that has since increased almost 10x in value (1000%!). I make more money than they ever did, but would not be able to buy the same townhouse today. At least I own 1.5 condos :michael:

it just feels like you're playing catch-up with inflation and rising living costs

i can't afford a mortgage on my own on my current salary, i do plan to get additional qualification and eventually work my way up in my field, but it's going to take years and i think by the time i get there everything will be even more expensive and i still won't be able to afford a house, for example... not to mention that at this rate i won't be able to retire until i'm 70 :rip:

The fact that I have a masters degree and a "high earning" job but could only dream of buying or building a house while my father who dropped out of college build a house and bought a new car every few years is just...:rip:

The whole point is so that none of us own anything because owning property = capital = power. This is why we're seeing corporations buy out blocks of homes and renting them out. In fact a quarter of single-family homes in the US are owned by investment companies. We will soon become a chronic renter state where the working class will never be able to own anything. So unless you study for high paying jobs, have some sort of generational wealth, or have great luck you are most likely screwed unless something changes. The Roaring 20s starting off strong :clap3:
