The first game of the London Series ended in a 9-1 win for the Cubs over the Cardinals. This matchup was initially supposed to have taken place in 2020, but COVID restrictions caused the series to be delayed to 2023.

Astros LHP Framber Valdez threw a no-hitter against the Cleveland Guardians last night. The Astros won 2-0.

HOUSTON -- The celebration started in the morning for the Astros, who found out via social media and group texts that future Hall of Fame pitcher Justin Verlander was headed back to H-town. The Astros had swung a blockbuster trade to bring back Verlander in a push for the playoffs with an eye on another long run into October.

That turned out to be only a precursor to an unforgettable Tuesday for the Astros -- a day capped by pitcher Framber Valdez throwing the game of his life. Valdez became the first left-handed pitcher in franchise history to throw a no-hitter by holding the Guardians to one walk while facing the minimum 27 batters in the Astros’ 2-0 win over Cleveland at Minute Maid Park.

Nationals RHP Stephen Strasburg announces that he'll retire from MLB. Strasburg helped get the Nationals a World Series title in 2019.

2019 World Series MVP Stephen Strasburg is planning to retire from baseball, a source told MLB.com's Mark Feinsand on Thursday. The news was first reported by The Washington Post. The Nationals have a press conference tentatively scheduled for Sept. 9, according to The Post. The Nationals have not confirmed the report.

Strasburg has not pitched since June 9, 2022, when he made his only appearance of the season for Washington. He underwent surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome in 2021 and has not been able to make a full return from that procedure.

Waino has 199 career wins. Hoping he gets 200.

This came in a 5-2 win over the O's last night for the Cardinals.

With the Cardinals 1-0 win over the Brewers last night, RHP Adam Wainwright got his 200th career win.

Waino went out with a bang, as the start over the Brewers in which he got his 200th win in will be his last start. Adam Wainwright could get one final at-bat sometime to close the season out.  #STLCards

John Denton at MLB.com:

MILWAUKEE -- On what would ultimately be the final pitch of his storied 18-year career as a pitcher for the Cardinals, Adam Wainwright knew that he would need to come from high over the top with his ailing right arm to get the tumbling action on a curveball that might preserve a 1-0 lead that eventually became his 200th victory on Sept. 18.

The only problem was that Wainwright had been unable to get his arm in that position for weeks because of the soreness in his right shoulder, and the multiple herniated discs in his back. To get there, Wainwright thought to himself as he stepped off the rubber, while 33,176 fans at Busch Stadium chanted his name, he’d need a pep talk.

[...]

Wainwright, one of 31 players in AL/NL history to homer on his first MLB pitch, is holding out hope for one at bat when the Cardinals host the Reds over the weekend.

Marmol, who added that Wainwright will remain on the active roster, said an at-bat is “a possibility,” but pitching again is not.

Angels are so embarrassing tbh

But glad they're ending the season with a new manager for next season.

We'll have to wait and see...

Hope the dbacks can beat the brewers tomorrow! Excited and nervous!

My gut tells me, though, that the Orioles are going to win the World Series this year. They don't have a home for next season, and I think the MLB will do all it can do to keep them in Baltimore. Winning a World Series might be the best way to help keep them there for the forseeable future.
