I had the time this round and it was fun writing this, and maybe it can make some of you feel better about your own entries lol 

 

Insular, Yet Resounds

 

 

 

Insular, Yet Resounds
 

Something strange in occurrence

An aural hallucination

Of unknown, bygone inception

And unfounded augmentation

 

How the sound reverberates,

Glorious, soul stirring tune

And I bask in its grandeur

Although all others seem immune

 

And I wonder how that’d be

When it’s so clear to me

But I look around, and all I see

Are blank faces, none that agree

 

So, how can they not hear it too?

It is sonorous, and true

As reliable, and omnipresent 

As the God I’d claim I knew

From the miracle and mystery

Of this grand phenomenon 

When I ask if it can be heard

I stand as the only one

 

And through it all I’ll weather

This situation without fear

I promise that I have faith

Of the utmost, for my cochlea

 

And I’ll ponder why bestowal 

Fell upon myself in grace

If something of my own doing,

Or prodigy of no trace

Explanation:

My AI picture is supposed to represent an ear and the song is about my experience with tinnitus.

I kinda have an odd experience with this condition, where I actually wasn't aware that I had it for a very long time. For some reason I thought it was normal that everybody could hear a degree of ringing in their ears, and it wasn't until I talked about it for the first time and asked somebody about it that I realised it actually isn't normal. I guess the damage to my hearing has been there for so long that I literally got so used to the sensation that I just figured it was something everybody experienced, but yeah, I hear a constant ringing and I can't remember the last time that I ever heard pure silence or whenever this first developed. The song kinda explores this in an abstract way but I also wanted to explore some ideas such as, firstly, how weird it is to be aware that you can hear things that only exist to you, and secondly, the fact that music itself can in a way honestly be harmful to you. Through the song I wanted to portray the beauty of music, and it's enchanting nature, but the fact that it can also damage you as was the case for me (from concerts, clubbing, and just generally listening to music loud). I think it's an interesting concept that I haven't seen explored before... I found music so stunning and so enjoyable that I consumed it to the degree that I will likely never hear silence again, and that is bizarre to think about. Anyway, tinnitus is weird, but I don't think it's as dramatic as I tried to portray it, but I guess it depends on each individual. For me I can drown it out a lot of the time, and like I said I am at the point where I'm so used to it that I literally thought it was a normal thing to hear, so it's not too big of a thing for me most of the time and more just a general annoyance (particularly when you get headaches or are trying to sleep, and probably a potential contributor/cause of my sleeping issues and insomnia). But I can imagine for people who notice it straight away it would definitely be shocking, and the idea that my hearing or condition could get worse over time is a little worrisome, because if my hearing is already damaged like this at my current age then wtf is it going to be like in the future..... 

Well, anyway, that's what I came up with! Shoutout to anybody who read all this.
