Netflix can **** right off.  I literally pay $20 a month for their ****** service so I will share with my family if I damn well please.

 

I can't wait to watch their subscribers and viewership plummet over this.  I'll probably end up canceling myself.

This is so brain dead of them. I share a Netflix account with my family spread across 3 different cities and none of us use it often enough to pay $20 individually  I guess they think enough people will shell over the extra subs for this to be worth it? We’re definitely canceling.

well i share my account with my brother who works in a cruise ship so he's away 6 months of the year.

even if he gets his own separate subscription does that mean his account will be blocked when he uses the cruise ship's wifi and not our house's?

Yeah, like what the hell do they mean “primary location/wifi”  is it where you created the account? Is it where you’re logged into the majority of the time? What happens if you move? So stupid

Does anyone know how this is actually going to work?  I just am so confused.  You could be one person with your own Netflix account and be the only one using it, and could theoretically use that account in 5 different places in a single day.  Say on Friday you use it:

1. at your home in the morning

2. on the train to work

3. at work on your lunch break

4. after work in a waiting room at the dentist/doctor's office

5. in a hotel that night on vacation

 

And yeah, what about people with two houses, what about people who travel a lot, what about kids with divorced parents, what about people with long commutes, etc, etc, etc.  I just don't think it's possible for Netflix to lock an account to one Wifi location......

Thanks for posting.  This answers the short-term travel question, but it's still insane.  What about when people MOVE!?  Literally millions of people move every day.  So they'll be blocked from their own accounts when they switch IP addresses and don't re-login to their original IP address after 31 days...?

I was reading this article in the office today and everyone was pretty much annoyed and said they're probably going to cancel subscription.

I hope this backfires for them, because it doesn't make sense whatsoever, especially in this economy and after they raised prices last year.

 

I have so many questions. Like, what about when you're just commuting home after work and want to watch something? What about people who have partners but don't live together and share the account?

What about students who move all the time?

 

EDIT: Also what is the point of multiple devices and paying more when you can only watch it in one household then?

Idk why everyone is so shocked that they want people to have their own profile. Like, 1 profile per household is fair enough. it’s not even that expensive, relatively.

 

The mistake they made is by waiting this long to do this in the first place. If they introduced this 5 years ago it probably would’ve gone down fine.

Doesn't hulu already do this in some way? Netflix has been a flop for awhile. My mom pays for mine and I rarely use it.

I understand what they doing and how it makes sense to share an account with people of their household, but it is a very clinical and bussiness way of thinking. So many people don't live with their parents nor family, yet they all share an account. For example I pay for my netflix account and I let my sister and mother who live in another country use it. 

Very greedy of them, I won't cancel my sub as I think there isn't a better streaming service out there, but ya.. just sad for my family really.

The full extent of the changes are actually even worse than the crack down on password sharing itself. They’ve effectively made any streaming on mobile devices outside your house a nightmare no matter who is the primary on the account. The traveling “solution” they came up with for vacation goers and people on work travel accessing their OWN account is just so ridiculously over the top I didn’t even think it was real at first. It’ll be way easier and cheaper going on the streaming sites for content than bending and jumping through all these hoops. Netflix has completely lost the plot and are in over their heads. Company suicide.
