Specter Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 (edited) I personally hate it. The point of Streaming/OTT was not to mimic cable Now you have so many streaming services (that act like channels, for all purposes) and now it's increasingly common for ""big"" shows to drip feed their episodes one by one. While I GET that it's to allow time to fester, drive fan theories and "combat" binge culture, I think the primary draw of streaming is convenience. Take TLOU. I have always been interested in the game and despite fighting Ponies who think it's the coming of Christ, I think it's quite a good IP and want to see the show. Was discussing this with a friend recently and their logic is "Well you will binge it and forget it in a week!'...as opposed to forgetting/needing to recap it episode by episode for the next 9 weeks? Thoughts? Edited January 17, 2023 by Phantom
Jaguarqueef Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 Yes, binging anything can be healthy. Also, I like something to look forward every week.
Europe Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 No. For example with Rings of Power and The White Lotus Season 2, I just waited for the entire season to be out before I watched any of it. But it sucks that you have to wait longer in that case. And they do all this for "conversation" so people can talk week-to-week about their show (and to extend subscription times of course) but it's so stupid, I don't want a series for the forum discussions but for the show's entertainment value.
HabbGaga Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 (edited) depends. most sunday night hbo shows work well week to week. i enjoy the conversation running all week long with shows like HOTD, Euphoria, The White Lotus and now TLOU but then something like Wednesday I would have never watched if the episodes were dropping week to week. also i feel shows that i binged leave less of an impression on me, the week to week schedule builds excitement. chaklux Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 I prefer binging or the Netflix method where a couple of episodes are released at once, then few weeks later, the remaining episodes also released at once.
Alldeezy Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 no, but only show I have to wait on is Love Island! new season has started, so now gotta watch each day, and always a day behind
Martyr Of Fame Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 No, I hate it. I don’t watch much television but I usually wait to “binge” a show when it’s over—even if I only watch one or two episodes a day, max. I’m usually fine waiting but there’s shows I’ve never watched because they were ruined for me. The most recent examples being Euphoria and White Lotus because every week there was a new (spoilery) meme being spammed all over twitter. Trying to avoid that happening with The Last of Us, at the moment.
PoisonCandy Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 I hate it. I usually wait until every episode is out because I find that I'll forget to watch the episodes week by week and lose interest, so I have to start over and binge it anyway. Last show this happened with was The Patient. I started the show when the third episode was out and then forgot about it. Started it again when the last episode dropped but I had to start from the beginning again because I forgot what happened.
bijonse Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 Yes, when I binge shows I can’t remember any details lol
MALAMENTE Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 Depends on the type of show. I like that OMITB does it because there’s always discussions week to week and also it is exciting to wait for the next one. Binging it all would be kinda boring. There are other shows who benefit from the binging model though
Hephaestus Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 I actually do. Discussing with other people is part of the experience for me, something that isn't really encouraged by shows that drop all episodes at once. Also binging can put people in a weird position when you don't have enough time to watch the whole thing asap because the risk of spoilers is higher, which doesn't happen as much with weekly shows since it's easier to find an hour to watch a show, even the day it drops.
Mr. Blue_Shirt Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 (edited) Yes, especially reality tv shows and tv shows that has more than 1 hour runtime per episodes Edited January 17, 2023 by Mr. Blue_Shirt
Sombre Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 If it's a big show, I like weekly drops because I like online discussions & obviously the pop culture reactions (read: memes lmao). I can't imagine Euphoria or White Lotus being as fun as they are if the whole season dropped at once.
Bencharmer Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 (edited) The problem with the all at once format is it killed the pleasure to discuss each episode one by one, made spoiling easier and promote binging, creating an habit to our brain to consume faster and faster. I personally love taking time watching a series and make it last. But i get one episode a week can be frustrating too. Edited January 17, 2023 by Bencharmer
Uncatena Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 binging is fun but some series are really made for a weekly drop. watching Severence weekly was an event and it gave enough time to process the episode. also discussing it online was extremely fun. so it depends I guess.

There are shows that wouldn't survive or catch on if they were released on a binge format. It would kill discussion between episodes and word of mouth won't spread as effectively. Slate Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 I do. Binging can sometimes feel overwhelming, I like having an episode to look forward to every week!
Maleficent Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 It kinda depends. I like having new episodes each week as something to look forward to, but it can also mean I get absorbed in something else during the wait between episodes and then no longer feel in the mood for that particular show.
aesthetic bih Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 no, i want them all at once. since there are time when i am in the mood to binge, but sometimes i get lazy
The Last of Us Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 It depends on the show. The Last of Us (aka Second Coming of Christ) benefits from weekly episodes as it gives you time to digest what you’ve just seen. I’m so glad I couldn’t just go straight into episode 2 yesterday as it allowed me time to sit and really examine everything I’ve just seen and discover the Easter eggs I may have missed.

This..there's a reason why HBO has iconic shows like House of the Dragon that are commented every week and are talked about for months, while Netflix has stuff like Wednesday that's mentioned for 2 weeks before people move on, before getting cancelled after 2 seasons (usually)
