mchl Posted January 18, 2024 Posted January 18, 2024 I’m always gonna wonder what the show looked like prior to the bacterial infection hospitalization. I think a lot of changes and compromises were made. No way that was the original vision for the ending.

Agreed, it feels like Celebration was originally a part of the setlist and then removed...the snippets of it playing at the beginning and ending are just too strange and last minute-sounding. The ending is a disaster and is borderline disrespectful to the rest of the show. Now that I think about it, however, we saw that rehearsal sheet that had Billie Jean / Like a Virgin and ***** I'm Madonna as the last two songs on it...maybe this really was the planned ending all along I would love to see the original concept of the show. We know she was working through it in great detail for months before rehearsals started, as she posted those pictures with Jamie King and the detailed stage mock up. There are parts of this show that feel underbaked (Hung Up in the Erotica section, the whole Die Another Day --> Don't Tell Me --> La Isla Bonita --> Evita section), and I have a hard time believing this was the original concept end-to-end.
Mr. Peanutbutter Posted January 18, 2024 Posted January 18, 2024 It's very strange to see her snubbing Music. It's one of her best songs

It's one of her best songs I low key kinda forgot it existed due to its exclusion, but it came on my playlist yesterday, and it hits so hard....it's easily one of her best, and it's a sound that really only Madonna can pull off well. I don't understand why it's not on the setlist. What better message to close the show with? 1
TipToe Posted January 18, 2024 Posted January 18, 2024 Mother and Father is not a must, but it's such an emotional moment. One of the highlights to me personally. And i hope if she's doing a stadium leg or something she consider bringing a live band and changing/add'ing some things in the musical part.

poki Posted January 18, 2024 Posted January 18, 2024 Yeah in terms of the setlist, it's not what I expected at all. It's basically an Erotica 30th anniversary tour but with Don't Tell Me and Like A Virgin thrown in.

It was planned all along - a paper setlist was seen in her IG stories before the hospitalization with LAV and BIM as the last 2 songs.

She only does 2 songs from Erotica now that Rain has been dropped (and literally an 8 second snippet of Fever). Imagine thinking hits like Into The Groove, Open Your Heart, Holiday, Live To Tell, Hung Up, Vogue, Crazy For You, La Isla Bonita, Ray of Light, and Frozen are just "thrown in."

DC Night 1 vibes were straight up depressing 1
Lead Cenobite Posted January 18, 2024 Posted January 18, 2024 Some insiders mentioned a whole section had been removed at some point leaving off "4 Minutes", "Back That Up to The Beat", "Candy Shop" and "Music." Though we also heard that "Oh Father", "Sorry" and other songs were apparently in. Agreed with the above post about the last two being on the sheet that she posted on IG with Billie Jean/LAV and BIM. The finale does need work especially given how anti-climatic it is.

Sad we didn't get Oh Father and Sorry, but I'm very thankful we didn't get Back That Up to the Beat.
wowsignal14 Posted January 18, 2024 Posted January 18, 2024 the last part of the show is tragic to me. it should've been Material Girl and Music instead of BIM and Celebration. those two songs i mentioned fit the colourful care free happy ending the show tries to achieve +they're much more known CLASSICS and are crowd pleasers. i feel like if the show ended like that it would be much better.

Agree. Swapping Mother and Father for Music would fit the cowgirl theme and performing Material Girl after BIM at the end would have had a more pleasant experience. Either way, overall the show is still stunning and I left the arena a very happy and proud fan!
MP3 Posted January 18, 2024 Posted January 18, 2024 First Montréal show tonight. I'm attending the second one, Saturday. She's in town since last Tuesday apparently. Curious to see if she will talk about her French-Canadian roots

The show would be amazing if she removed Mother And Father, and add another section after the Like a Virgin interlude with Material Girl, Sorry, 4 Minutes, Give It 2 Me and then leave the stage for one last encore with ***** I'm Madonna and actually sing a bit more of Music and Celebration. There were rumors she removed one section that included 4 Minutes, Sorry, Candy Shop and another song (can't remember what now). Seems like she's getting more and more comfortable on stage...i'd say 20 more minutes on stage during a stadium tour this summer with bigger gaps between dates would be something she could do for sure. Choreo could be something like Die Another Day or something she wouldn't get tired as well. This show is not about a simple greatest hits show though. Its about her life through her music dance and performance on stage. Literally She invited us to be on a journey with her about her life . Being a mother and losing a mother is the biggest event in her life. She will never omit that part. It's about her life story rather than a greatest hits show. We and the media all know that. So mother and father, regardless of the taste or favor, is cemented in the place. The song is basically about her parents Edited January 18, 2024 by readytowind

Since a couple of years, her situation worsened, it really started around 2015 when she was performing onstage with back pains and muscular spasms.. But I think she's getting better now and there are some rumours she might return on Vegas stage later this year. After all she was on a 100+ shows tour in 2019-20 and it stopped only because of Covid.. We'll see, but her career can't finish like that, it would be such a sad incredible-career ending

At some point probably, Madonna's mother was a Fortin which is a very common last name here in Québec. Making a long history short, a lot of French-Canadians went to the United States during the 1800's-1900's for job opportunities and a lot of Americans still have French last names but they don't speak French since their ancestors stopped speaking it because it was not useful in America. The ones who stayed in Quebec still speak French as a first language like Céline for exemple Edited January 18, 2024 by MP3
