Midnights has an completely average number of versions compared to other artists

So Billboard has articles of all top albums and their excessive versions like they did with Midnights? I don’t remember seeing them.

Wow that number is absolutely massive :alexz2: Talent always wins. So happy for her, to think she was shy and scared to release this :bibliahh:

the fact that it's doing so well despite being released nearly two years after the lead single :WAP:

"Excessive versions" and yet Midnights has the exact same number of vinyl variants as Positions did first week, as well as the variants that Future Nostalgia, Chromatica, 30, Smile, etc. all have as of today. The reason Billboard points them out for Taylor is because they actually impact her performance in a positive way. What good is calling out the number of variants artists release if it only gives them 5k extra sales as opposed to Taylor who actually moves hundreds of thousands of units.

People wanting to buy your music and collect the variants has got to stop being seen as a bad thing. It's why legendary artists re-press their old classic albums all the time. It's been industry practice forever, and Taylor is hardly the first or last artist to benefit from it --- she just benefits the most, out of all the modern age artists, and that seems to boil some people's blood for some reason.

The way y’all act so dense like Taylor doesn’t sell multiple versions on multiple formats to maximize sales and encouragement of fans to buy multiple copies.

And all those sales are recognized as legitimate, organic consumption by Billboard hence their inclusion on their weekly album chart. :clap3:

If they weren't organic, Billboard would've filtered them out ages ago, like they've done in the past with non-organic units like tour/merch bundles.

No they dont. But that article from Billboard was extremely unprofessionell.

The clock is the only new thing Taylor did. And who knows how much that helped. Certainly did some, yes.

Oh and Taylor's 5th week SEA was 118k. So she also had these "organic 5 weeks above 100k".

Interestingly they didnt mention the SEA from SOS. Should be 120 or 121k

More people in this thread trying to shade Taylor (and failing pretty hard) than celebrating SZA's #1 album. It says everything. :coffee2:

But let me guess, now that Taylor met their criteria for “organic” success they’re going to move the goalpost :dies:

Reality is EoM is sitting pretty at #1. Will be the first to be #1 in downloads, streaming, and radio since 2017. She's being consumed on ALL formats.

Mentioning 2017, that's the last time Taylor had a #1 hit that lasted more than 1 week at the top outside of its debut. Fun fact, Easy on Me will outstream Cardigan and Willow on Spotify by the end of November. It took a not even 2 months for it to outstream :deadbanana4:

And this "Rerecording" excuse is so BS and they all know it. Taylor has presented herself as the victim all over TV and social media asking people to buy her TVs to get back at SB for selling her music. She's literally telling people/her fans, buying these new versions is a big deal and is empowering.

Swifities need to stop acting like Taylor dropped a re-recording album for fun, and that it's selling this amount without incentive. She included like 15 new songs, has multiple versions and promoted on TV (including a performance on SNL). She also promoted the **** out of it on Tik Tok knowing they'd eat up the drama with Jake Gyllenhaal ala Olivia/Joshua/Sabrina.

The nostalgia + controversy (Jake + Rerecording) work in Taylor's favor for. Not against her.

I honestly can't wait for her next release. If it opens with 600-800k with her plethora of versions then I can't wait to bump all these Swifties. Because it will SURELY be embarrassing if Taylor can't significantly outsell her own re-recording with her next studio album.

The denial phase is still going strong, i see

Good for her :clap3: But she did not sell 1.5M copies organically like the user I originally quoted is trying to shade with.

There's nothing inherently wrong with Taylor following the Kpop formula to maintain high physical sales in this decade. It's smart of her if her priority is sales and chart achievements. But her physical sales at this point are no different than Kpop groups albums selling bucketloads despite being completely irrelevant to the GP (7/10 of top selling physical CDs in the US are Kpop acts the public has never even heard of).

Quote

Top CD Album Sales
Artist Title Sales

1 Taylor Swift Midnights 640,000
2 BTS Proof 413,000
3 TOMORROW X TOGETHER Minisode 2: Thursday’s Child 227,000
4 Harry Styles Harry’s House 219,000
5 Stray Kids Oddinary 204,000
6 TWICE Between 1&2: 11th Mini Album 199,000
7 Stray Kids Maxident 177,000
8 ENHYPEN Manifesto: Day 1 173,000
9 Beyoncé Renaissance 163,000
10 NCT 127 2 Baddies 148,000

Am I saying her sales would be low? Absolutely not. She broke streaming records regardless of her physical shenanigans. That being said, her overall sales would be nowhere near what they are without her inflating physical sales anyway she could.

As I said in the previous post, if she didn't need her dozens of covers and versions of CDs and Vinyls to inflate sales she wouldn't do them.

Stating her sales are inflated =/= insinuating her sales would be LOW without them.

There are 4 different covers of Midnights. And the target exclusive with the 1 extra song. Not dozens. But yes that the 4 covers together formed a clock certainly convinced some to buy all 4

But Red TV only had the 1 standard version and still did pretty well.  :celestial5:

And if it would be so easy other artists would do the same. Oh wait, they are doing the same, as I said, they just dont sell either way.

And yes you have to be a really dedicated fan to still buy an album. Which Taylor and K-Pop acts have a lot of. There was an article recently that 50% of the people buying vinyls dont have a record player. They are collectibles. Or wall Art. Like the clock.

I just dont think there are that many Taylor fans buying multiple albums as everyone seems to think. Or that the 1.578M wasnt insanely impressive and crazy

So let's try to reach this benchmark for organicness that y'all won't shut up, let's say we remove all the physical CDs and vinyl sales. Midnights still did 1.6M SEA units - that's double what SOS did so far and even if it keeps doing 100k units for the next month it won't come close to Midnights units in the same timeframe. I'm sure the goalposts will kept being moved but that's that.

Stop trolling pls. I beg you!

The nerve to place a woman with demand for 900 stadiums in the same bag as k-pop groups selling 100k-200k physical albums.

Billboard usually mentions variants. I already provided receipts weeks/months ago. Don’t remember all examples, but Renaissance was one of them. If pointing these things out makes you uncomfortable….maybe reflect on that lol. The issue ain’t Billboard

In the BB200 article, yes. They gave Midnights an extra article. And mentioned insanely stupid **** and called it "versions"
