Why is people always doing the most with Caroline? :skull:

Actually, Caroline is the artist from this newer generation that I could draw the more comparisons to Kate (I DON’T know what y’all are seeing in Lorde). Her music gets very eccentric and has a voice that allows her to have those out-of-the-box (and out-of-pocket too) moments just like Kate. I’m sure plenty of you haven’t dived into Kate Bush’s discography because it’s not an easy pill to swallow at parts, she quite literally lives for the experimentation, for better or worse. She also is very performative in the sense of there being more beyond her music, putting a lot of importance to visuals, to dancing and the way art is presented. I can see than on Caroline. But as she said, both are their own selves.

I kinda agree.  I don't think Caroline's that similar to KB, but she has more similarities than Lorde.  Lorde can be Suzanne Vega

I thought the thread title was bad enough, then I opened the thread and saw Ms Fraggipan's name being mentioned, even worse :skull:

Sorry, but no one in this generation is serving anything as out there as Get Out of My House, let's be serious.

That should be compliment to Caroline however she has been boring for a while now. Kimbra, Goldfrapp and Bjork are far better artists to compare to Kate Bush.

If only she had continue with this sound,

Or giving us some more Arcadia or settled for an Ocean of Tears ambient sound with songs that focus on her vocals. Then, I could say yes she could be in the running to be within the realm of Bush's level of  eccentricity. So yes she is right, she is this generation Caroline Polachek.

That interviewer in the first interview knew what they were doing, trying to bait her by suggesting Tori, a mess :rip:

good response without disrespect for Kate Bush

Kate Bush, sweetie…

There's nothing wrong with what she said, other than the fact that it's less a compliment and more of the media just being itself. Female artists get lazily compared to Kate Bush all the time.

Ruthless :rip: tori still covers kate's music live and was always nice when the comparisons dropped. maybe because she was the first to achieve huge success, especially in the UK, and had people endlessly calling her the new kate she took the bullets lol

People are dropping Lorde as a comparison, but La Bush never released a dud like Solar Power until The Red Shoes, more than ten years past her debut lol At this point even Bilie Eilish has the upper hand if we stick by the "young signed artist, has a major hit and becomes more artistic with each new era" conditions lol There won't ever be another Kate Bush and what we saw last year sealed the deal. Whoever had the potential for that in an artistic ground gladly became their own thing and standard (Bjork, Tori Amos, ANOHNI, Joanna Newsom, Bat for Lashes, St Vincent, PJ Harvey, etc)

But like I said, we’re never gonna get close to someone like Kate because simply no one is doing what she did. In this case, Lorde is literally the closest we’ll get to what Kate Bush represented in her time, especially when it comes to public perspective. And let’s not act like the reception to The Dreaming didn’t do way worse for Kate than Solar Power’s did to Lorde. Kate almost got dropped from her label + everything people talked about Lorde during the SP era was what people talked about Kate back then: ooh she’s pretentious, she’s trying to become less commercial on purpose, she won’t recover from this etc etc.
