Caroline Polachek annoyed by Kate Bush comparisons

The funny thing about this is that the alt girl who comes closer to what Kate Bush was in her time is Lorde :deadbanana2:

Foreign girl signed at 12, breakout debut single followed by successful debut album. Introverted persona who’s away from the spotlight and takes huge breaks in between albums. Had acclaim and panned eras and had validation from legends very early on :rip: Not to mention Lorde becoming Kate’s legitimate daughter for a sec in Writer in the Dark.

I love Caroline but out of ALL people why her??? She doesn’t have 1/3 of the fame Kate had during her time and, in my opinion, this discussion should be around impact and public image because no one today is doing music similar to Kate

Some people here must have not heard/cared or listened to Kate's music before last year. The big alt female artists have ALL received Kate Bush comparisons - Bjork, PJ Harvey, Tori Amos, Joanna Newsom, Bat for Lashes, Florence and I guess yes Caroline as well.

Sometime ago I stumbled across two interviews from Kate and she was SO SHADY towards Tori… I was gagged tbh I didn’t know she had it in her

This has been going on for 13 years (skip to 1:10).

the tweet comes after various interviews (specifically the most recent one that came out today) that pointed that comparisson out, and honestly if you search for tweets made prior to today you’ll see a lot of people that say she’s “the daughter” or “the new” Björk, Kate Bush, Fiona Apple, Enya or Imogen Heap because A) most people need to belittle any “new” (despite Caroline having an over 15 year old career) female artists B) people seem to need references to understand anything they haven’t seen or heard before.

Most people are missing the point she’s trying to say there’s no “new” Kate Bush because she’s alive, and well, and she hasn’t even retired. So calling anybody else “new” whoever is disrespectful to that person. People did it with Gaga and Madonna as well, and Madonna is still releasing music so it’s ridiculous.

The worst part of it all is seeing this deep-rooted misogyny, specially in lgbtqi+ spaces, cause nobody does this to male artists. A female artist slightly sounds or looks like someone else and they get these comments from the second they exist, not to even mention the plagiarism comments.

This is a dumb comparison and Caroline shut it down as she should.  But yes, publications and journalists have made this comparison for years even through they sound absolutely nothing alike.

This generations Kate Bush is Halsey. I heard a tiny bit of Closer on the radio and thought it was Running Up That Hill.

I should give Caroline a chance if she gets this type of comparison tho.

now this is what she should be annoyed by

It's a thing that the Music press have been doing since the 90s. Kate had an influence outside of Netflix.

(Also I'm not saying I support calling any woman who decides to make music that's not completely derivative a Kate Bush wannabe or whatever. I think it's lazy.)

i was about to say, all of the alt girls has been compared to kate, caro, just sit and eat your food girl and be happy you're in the conversation.

Closer is truly this generations new wave baroque art pop rock anthem by the queen of indie alternative psychedelic trip hop Holsey :clap3:
