Europe Posted January 14, 2023 Posted January 14, 2023 Disney's programming is generally more wholesome, includes moral lessons, and tries not to offend anyone. At the same time, Nickelodeon is more focused on keeping kids entertained. Nick allows a few more mild innuendos, and uses words like "sexy" and "Oh my God" (Disney replaces it with "Gosh" so that they don't offend Christian parents.). Nickeloden shows are also less geared toward moral lessons, like Disney, and more geared towards giving the viewer a good time. What do you think?
Devin Posted January 14, 2023 Posted January 14, 2023 Growing up as a kid… Cartoon Network - least appropriate Nickelodeon - 50/50 Disney - most appropriate
byzantium Posted January 14, 2023 Posted January 14, 2023 Didn't Nickelodeon shows allude to a foot fetish oddly frequently?
meangreen11 Posted January 14, 2023 Posted January 14, 2023 It was always this way… growing up in the 90s/00s, Cartoon Network was for pretty much everyone, Disney was for the kids who were sheltered or had religious parents and wouldn’t allow them to watch anything cool, and Nickelodeon was edgy. Disney Channel was always bland, conservative, juvenile, and formulaic.

I’ve heard the opposite, I’ve seen countless people talk about how their religious parents refused to let them watch shows like Raven & Wizards because of “witchcraft”
rhaenyra Posted January 14, 2023 Posted January 14, 2023 (edited) I mean, Dan Schneider heralded and had a huge foot hold on so many of our Nick favorites growing up so in way, he raised us But in that same vein, Nickelodeon fought tooth and nail to outright ostracize Korrasami which is why they made later Korra seasons online only Edited January 14, 2023 by rhaenyra
DawnAnti Posted January 14, 2023 Posted January 14, 2023 Yet it was and never will be as iconic as Disney

I think Raven came out while I was in HS. I had pretty religious family and went to church a bit too. All of those kids were only allowed to watch Disney. Or Veggietales lol they’d sit there with their juice boxes and string cheese watching Ducktales while I was at home livin it up with lunchables and Rocco’s Modern Life

bijonse Posted January 14, 2023 Posted January 14, 2023 Yeah disney was kind of wack to me growing up. And once Cartoon Network got rid of toonami ppg and samurai jack them too. Nick >>>>>
Magdalene Posted January 14, 2023 Posted January 14, 2023 i was always gagged at the boob jokes in nickelodeon shows so yeah
sway Posted January 14, 2023 Posted January 14, 2023 One of the few times Disney was risqué was when it bought the rights to air My Babysitter's a Vampire (film and series). It was more violent than the usual Halloween-themed films they aired and more unrestricted in their dialogue, so much that it was rated PG-V. First time I had ever heard words like "pervert", people making out, and hickies on a Disney show. After the soccer moms clutched their pearls and complained, Disney reverted back to their formula. They were trying to rebrand to compete with the Nickelodeon renaissance, but realized it pissed off their core audience.
Mania Posted January 14, 2023 Posted January 14, 2023 I would say so since stuff like Ren and Stimpy was allowed aired and allowed for violent / slight gory scenes like in Spongebob, plus ignored the grooming / pedo moments with their child actors not to say Disney has a clean record.
vale9001 Posted January 14, 2023 Posted January 14, 2023 Yeah for example the foot fetishism in the Dan Schneider series gave them that auterish touch ala Tarantino.

MusicLoverDude Posted January 14, 2023 Posted January 14, 2023 They always have been. Even with the Dan Schneider shows out of the equation, you had shows like Hey Arnold which snuck in the word hell (by having Grandma have a hard time reading Helga's name on a phone message), used a censored version of **** (Helga once referred to a situation as a double freaking nightmare), etc. You had Rugrats which made references to adult sex videos and what not. The closest we got to a mature Disney show recently was Andi Mack, which was without a doubt the best show Disney made in the 2010s. That show referenced periods, one scene alluded to male boners/masturbation, literally had a main gay character AND a gay ship, had a gun safety storyline, the titular character was the result of a teen pregnancy, etc.
