i just don’t understand what would possess her to say something like that after YEARS of backlash :rip:

Most people don't cater their every thought and word around how jobless strangers on the internet might react? People who have actually seen the world and other ways of life know that there is beauty in appreciating and honoring our differences. Gwen knows she isn't ethnically Japanese - she grew up immersed in Japanese culture and developed a deep appreciation for it. It's cool that she represented some of that in her music and imagery and helped expose US audiences to other cultures.

Gwen raised me. She can do whatever she wants.

Allure is acting real childish with the way they’re handling this interview. She really didn’t say anything wrong, had no malicious intent, and it didn’t seem like she meant she was ethnically Japanese.

I’m glad she spoke her truth instead of just giving a PR approved woke statement rebuking her time with the Harajuku girls. It was an iconic era and she shall defend it as such.

She's totally right in her sentiment that people are allowed to feel inspired by other cultures that are vastly different than their own. Cultures from around the world already do this but it only seems to be a problem in the US.

People are allowed to be inspired from other cultures despite whatever narrative the internet tries to spin as cultural appropriation.. Which in today's times mostly consists of people not even from the same culture being offended for people from "insert targeted culture of the day here" on their behalf.

i definitely don't think there's anything wrong whatsoever with appreciating other cultures, i just think someone who is a businesswoman with a product to sell and has been pressed on this issue for over a decade now would have chosen a more sane way to phrase her thoughts then the way it came out here LOL

Being inspired by a culture is completely respectable.

Saying you're Japanese when you're not and not being able to explain it properly is... a choice.

It would seem that she is 53 and still thriving, in part because she has never succumbed to ridiculous media/internet backlash to censor herself.

She gives zero fucks and she will speak her mind and answer questions the way she wants.

I love Gwen and think she's good at being a Popstar but she's extremely problematic and has always been since No Doubt :gaycat6:
