Mariah Carey - Breakdown | Turns 25

The song was released in January 1998 by Columbia Records as the fourth single from Butterfly. Similar to the treatments of the "Butterfly" and "The Roof", "Breakdown" received a limited worldwide release due to Carey's conflict at the time with Sony.

Despite it's limited release, it peaked at #4 in New Zealand and top 40 in Australia (their taste!) and charted at #53 on the US Hot 100 Airplay.

It was certified Gold in the USA in March 2022.

Top 10 best songs of all time

So, what do you do when somebody you're devoted to
Suddenly just stops loving you and it seems they haven't got a clue
Of the pain that rejection is putting you through
Do you cling to your pride and sing "I will survive"
Do you lash out and say "How dare you leave this way"
Do you hold on in vain as they just slip away

Ain't no one coming close to that songwriting

classic and influential.

Fun note: This was played late at night or early in the morning on MTV and barely on VH1. This was when Tommy Mozzarella started messing with her (The butterfly era).

Disgusting how they didn't give this a shot at pop.

Some people were calling her fat because she was meatier in this video. She looks amazing.

They really fat shamed and slt shamed her for showing her body. They couldn't handle the looks, talent, beauty and body all at once.

I knew this would influence more than Honey, My all, Butterfly or the roof

This is among my top 10 most played songs this month. A masterpiece in every way. The looks she served in the video :flame: she was in her bag in the late 90s.
