Does it not make sense people are going to use their connections to get their loved ones into positions of power or the familiarity of a famous face is going to grant them more opportunities? Like, I get the annoyance and the discourse is juicy but I ultimately don’t get how anyone can truly find much more of an issue. Best believe I would grant the people I love any privilege I could afford them, and people who pretend they wouldn’t are lying.
Pendulum Posted January 8, 2023 Posted January 8, 2023 (edited) no but the way there is a word for nepotism in my language.. we were kinda ahead! corrupt countries ONLY!! шуробаджанащина comes from шурей and баджанак which are sort of archaic words for the husband of the daughter and the husband of the sister of the daughter (), respectively. https://translate.google.com/?sl=bg&tl=en&text=шуробаджанащина&op=translate Edited January 8, 2023 by Pendulum
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted January 8, 2023 ATRL Moderator Posted January 8, 2023 It’s definitely an online trend. But for the most part it’s fun. It’s wrong, but there’s no need to get self righteous about it cause it’s really just part of a larger problem. and at the end of the day we all like knocking a celebrity down a peg in our mind. Oh, this famous person who makes bad music? Only got a record deal because of their mom. This actor hottie that makes you fume? Only got gigs cause their dad was a producer, etc.
harwee Posted January 8, 2023 Posted January 8, 2023 (edited) To some people it is so kinda understandable. Its more weird that its become less of an insult and more of a compliment. Some ppl actually shamelessly proud of being nepo kids. Its one of those words people pretend to dislike but humble brag. Edited January 9, 2023 by harwee
CBC Posted January 9, 2023 Posted January 9, 2023 Nepotism is a cyclical thing. It gets talked about every x years. It's just more evident now because a new and bigger generation of nepo babies are now nepo adults ready to receive their jobs handed to them on a silver plate. The % of nepotism grows in the industry as generations go by it's just quick maths and it reaches a point when it's not sustainable aka rn. At this point nepotism starts being a real problem because everyone gets the gig and not just the ones that are good enough and the quality of entertainment consequently decreases so people are forced to speak on it and look for alternatives where the content is better aka there's less nepotism.
Sugar-Rush Posted January 9, 2023 Posted January 9, 2023 Reminds me of how some Americans didn't know that fortnight was an actual word; many just assumed it was an alternate spelling of Fortnite.
