cockatoo Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 I'm sorry but the way I see people on twitter and tiktok (and ATRL) talking about nepotism, it's as if some of you only just found out it existed or that there's a word for it It genuinely makes me wonder how out of touch some people are that they find it shocking that rich people make sure their children are also rich and successful I don't condone nepotism btw, I just think the response has been a bit surreal
krustysalt Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 It's not that they have not heard it but over the last few years nepotism has been normalise in the industry. A lot of these nepo babies were under the radar so for most people they it is shocking when they found out
Cheers Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 Because they did just find out about it . Social media herds just follow whatever gets a bunch of likes and think they’re being “moralists.” A bunch of fakes!
BrokenMachine Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 Right. Meritocracy has always been a myth, only the rich are the ones choosing who can make it and who can't. Of course there are exceptions, but if you were born in a rich family there's a 90% that you will die rich because your family won't let you fall.

In the music industry the vast majority of successful acts come from some kind of money. The only notable exceptions are the few people who made it big off a talent show. The thing with the performing arts in general is you're not really gonna make much money at all for the first few years, so you need something to live off while you're looking for jobs or your first big break. Naturally it attracts people who have family money to fall back on and support them. They can pursue as many avenues as they like until one works out because they don't have to worry about putting food on the table or paying for their heating.
KillingYourCareer Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 Are they? Nepotism was widely used in history class when I went to school.
XXI. Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 (edited) Of course nepotism exists in every industry... However, I think that article was more so unearthing that some of these stars use different surnames to distance themselves from their families and present themselves as "self-made". There were some celebrities included in that article that I didn't realize their families had ties to the industry beforehand. As the old saying goes, "the rich get richer and the poor get poorer" - entitled children getting handed opportunities because it's their apparent 'birthright'... not because they worked hard or are necessarily talented. Literally like how they tried cancelling Kesha and Katy for Jeffrey Dahmer references because it was currently in the news bc of that biopic. Virtue signalers. The average Twitter/TikTok user will care for like 2 weeks then move onto the next topic. Their attention spans don't last long. Edited January 7, 2023 by LustSpell
Abracadabra Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 Tea. And it's also kind of laughable that people think that it only exists in the entertainment industry or that is the worst and most insidious form of nepotism. Nepotism in politics and banking is a way bigger problem for us all than actors and models

Wait until they face the real world.
Reginald Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 The same reason they act like "cancel culture" is a new thing, even though it's existed since the 1950s, McCarthyism Ugh, and don't even get me started on how the word "woke" has been completely hijacked. It's just new words to describe familiar ideas. I wish people would realize none of this is new.
Thelightiscumin Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 (edited) Well it’s just that it gained momentum rn and the conversation about it started in mainstream media. Just like how before the BLM movement, people were living with all these monuments glorifying racist figures and they only got collectively aware of it when the movement caught fire. Henry Torres Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 (edited) New generation discovered a new word, normal thing + most people aren't nepo babies so people can relate to it very easily Edited January 7, 2023 by Henry Torres

That's a fair point. I guess the people I've seen being called out for nepotism in the past have been the obvious ones like the Beckhams, the Smiths, Michael Douglas, Jamie Lee-Curtis etc
Delirious Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 Tea. Mostly everyone in the western world benefits from nepotism so....it's like calling the kettle black chile

Flanders Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 The important thing is that it’s being talked about and shed a bigger light on. It’s a huge problem across all industries
JawBreaker Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 It reminds me of when people started using the word gaslight
305 Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 It's so dumb, the people mad are just upset that they themselves aren't nepo babies
Outlaws Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 A lot of internet people tend to hop on whatever the new hate trend is, repeat whatever they read with no facts, no research, nothing whatsoever. The more they read it, the more they repeat it. It's annoying and disgusting.
Mr.Link Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 Gen Z pretending to be woke while they tweet from the iPhone their parents bought for them is just laughable.
