Brishka Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 (edited) In summer, several ATRL girlies were telling us that Europeans would be freezing to death en mass and gas prices would skyrocket to abnormally high levels if we don't allow ruzzia to commit genocide against Ukrainians. Well, gas prices have now plunged to the lowest level since September 2021 (!). EU gas benchmark TTF is trading sub-€65 per MWh It was at €334 per MWh in August. Edited January 5, 2023 by Brishka

Well. its pretty evident and obvious what is going on. The weather is on the west, and is helping (the good) Europe. If the weather were to be horrible, the story would be another
Friedrichhainz Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 As a European (Berlin) I will let you know, that this `gas prices would skyrocket to abnormally high levels" is the case for end-consumers right now. Unfortunately the end-consumer will not benefit immediately from the current price development. Background: The article you´ve shared is around the industry prices. But the gas suppliers had to buy their gas already in summer 2022 (when the prices were insane), because otherwise they don´t have enough in stock for the winter season. So, the new price development won´t have an impact on the consumer prices at least until end of next year. Eg. I already got my letter from my gas supplier and the costs for heating will increase from 60 to 375 EUR per month. So the increase of gas costs is still the case. IMPORTANT NOTE: Just to avoid any misunderstandings ;-) From my POV the sanctions against Russia are more than justified. I just want to correct the misinterpretation on the current consumer gas prices.
nathanspears Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 But I'm sure our bills still won't go down

Alongoria13 Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 Why are baguettes croaking then? I am genuinely curious.
Jude Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 Can we just move on to renewable energy sources now?
Komet Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 Although I hate this mid overcast warm weather in the middle of winter, I do find it funny that all those 'NO we must suck russia's dick Europe will FREEZE' fascists got clocked

Europe isn’t depleting its gas storages as fast as expected — or feared. Over the last seven days, Germany has managed to inject more gas into storage than it withdrew — unusual during the Christmas season.
OrgVisual Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 Now why are they still increasing household energy price? These capitalists
Taylena Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 But is Putin suicidal yet? That's all that matters.

We got lucky that this winter is way milder than normal. Let's hope we have enough sources so there are no issues if the winter cold. The sanctions against Russia have made governments invest heavily in renewables though so the energy transition is happening at much faster rate thanks to this

Look for a new provider. anyway, this is the least surprising thing to ever happen, unless you mostly consume Russian propaganda.

MonsterJohn Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 well then why my energy bill is going up? As well as everything??? Capitalism is a disease
