Julia Fox Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 It has been known that Charli XCX and the 99% of her fans hate her breakthrough album “SUCKER” which has the hits “Boom Clap” and “Break The Rules” and some pop perfections like “Doing It”, “Body Of My Own” and “Need Ur Luv”… is the album really that bad? yeah it has a lot of filler on it (Die Tonight, Caught in The Middle, Hangin Around) but it’s still for me a very good record that it’s so catchy, carefree, fresh and that it executes really well what it pretended to be (a retro pop rock record with catchy hooks like Charli knows best) What do you think?
The Last of Us Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 The way none of the songs you called filler are filler though….
Escape Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 It isn't but it is my least played Charli XCX album by far.

I enjoy every song on the album tbh. For me, it’s her strongest and most cohesive album. Her music has since taken a nose dive. I had high hopes for her after SUCKER but CRASH was not it!
Karla Cabello Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 no, its better than crash. boom clap is a perfect pop song
shookspeare Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 Pop 2 is her only good album (Vroom Vroom is great too) so yes
Cannon Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 (edited) Releasing Break the Rules as a single was a huge misstep in her career. That song drags the whole album down for me. Other than that a lot of the other tracks are very catchy. Filler songs: Body of My Own Caught in the Middle Edited January 4, 2023 by Cannon
KillingYourCareer Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 No? It's her last listenable project!
paulyyyozd Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 ofc not, it's fine. in 2014 it was lowkey great

SimpleKindofLife Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 Personally I love this album and she totally showed off her versatility early in her career with it. However, the album really isn’t cohesive at all which I can understand the criticism about. Some songs are pure pop and some are rock-ish, it makes no sense as a whole. Also, Red Balloon should’ve never made it out the studio.
PopKills Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 I think it’s okay for a throwback (especially Break The Rules) and did. what it was supposed to do but I don’t find myself using songs from this often at all.
Bloodflowers. Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 I was a STAN during this era! Her AMAs 2014 performance and the transition from Boom Clap into Break the Rules got me GAGGED!! Also LUV this song and video "We had a good run... Patrick."

Overall it is a good album, I just didn’t like how polished all the songs felt compared to her experimental messiness on True Romance.

That’s one of my favorites too the way I’m still obsessed with the “you said forever but baby I’m not so sure” even to this day like it gave me so much chills literally one of the best second verses of the history I fear
Cain Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 Doing It and Breaking Up are nice Other than that yeah it’s not great
SLIME Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 Her worst (and most basic) project, but no it's not that bad. I liked it more at the time before we knew what was to come.
