Louisiana now requires photo-ID to view online p***

A new law makes porn sites liable for content deemed “harmful to minors” if it doesn’t install age verification technology for anyone accessing them in Louisiana—and it’s already affecting how people in the state access ****hub. When Motherboard tested the verification, ****hub directed us to AllPassTrust, a third-party identity verification site, which connects to LAWallet, a digital driver’s license for Louisianans.

It was introduced by Representative Laurie Schlegel, who recently supported legislation that banned transgender athletes from competing on girls and women’s sports teams in Louisiana. Other major adult sites, including XVideos and XHamster, are still accessible from Louisiana as normal. OnlyFans’ site hangs on the loading page when accessed from a Louisiana IP and eventually times out. X

I mean, I don’t think it’s a bad idea in theory but boy is that a boner killer

Eh, seems a little excessive…

That being said - this is a bit of a grey area… access to p*rn right now is so, so incredibly easy. And a lot of young people (particularly men) are having their expectations around sex massively distorted thanks to p*rn

I don’t have a solution. But I do think there’s a wider problem that needs to be addressed.

God, I hate that I’m sympathising with a conservative viewpoint…

Hm :lakitu: The government requiring you to submit your driver's license to a third-party data processor, to have access to porn. What could go wrong?! :laugh2:

I'm sure AllPassTrust won't sell, or retain, data about your p*rn watching habits (sarcasm). Sorry for the people in Louisiana! Privacy is dead

I don’t necessarily feel strongly about this for p*rn, but I just have a feeling that the state of LA or other states will start labeling anything regarding homosexuality or trans topics as “harmful to minors”.

While there were free speech elements of arguments against the initial clearing out of ****hub I agreed with, there was solid data on exploitation the service simply wasn't going to do anything substantial about. The problem is, much like FOSTA/SESTA, this creates more problems than it solves.

If you watch the clip it says no personal info is stored which I don't believe for a second. Millennials and Gen Z will simply use VPNs and the state won't be willing to invest in the technology to work around them.

There's much more comprehensive solutions on trafficking and exploitation that they'll say are far too expensive and nothing will be accomplished. Like most politics today, it's empty symbolism.

As far as the arguments about dating, erectile dysfunction, etc. from porn rooted in stereotype, there's also tons of studies making the exact opposite arguments, specifically on rape rates. But that's an inconvenient argument for them.

Lol why are US Government entities so obsessed with third parties owning all of their citizens data? What ******* idiots. This law's content aside, how idiotic to basically give away every LA resident's ID information to a random third party.

All this will do will teach hillbillies in trailer parks in rural Louisiana what a VPN is and how to use it 🤣

If there was a way to stop under 18s from watching porn then that would be something I'd support, but things like this are quite easy to evade :gaycat6:

Hopefully this **** stops here or say bye bye to adult content on twitter and other apps not specifically made for adult content. :gaycat6:

It's funny how conservatives switch on topics when it involves social conservatism. Aren't they the ones always screaming about letting parents raise their kids, no to big government, individual freedom and so on. Now they want people to provide personal data to a company hired by the government so they can access a porn site?

To be honest, I actually think this is a good decision. Minors have too easy of an access to this type of content and it warps their views on sex.

Parents should be the ones responsible for monitoring their child's content. In 2023, I'm certain there are few parents who would have trouble figuring out parental controls on their child's devices. This is well intentioned, but feels a bit overreaching.

The government has no business getting involved in people’s personal lives. The government is not your babysitter.

Reading this thread is another surprise, and not surprise, for this forum lmao. No wonder Conservatives stay relevant and in control despite getting more unhinged and more unpopular as a party - because y'all will bend to their narratives like, every time in such a surface level way. "I mean, its not a bad idea..."

Maybe its a post now, critical think later situation but I don't wanna hear any bitching when you can't do anything on the internet without uploading your ID. Or when you as a grown ass adult can't access porn because the majority of platforms wont want to go through the hoops and ladders of contracting with third party ID verification systems and being held liable if an unsupervised minor finds a way on their site because they were intentionally looking for it.  :rip:

This is only true for those of us who didn't have strict parents. I never had parental controls on any of my devices. If I ever became a parent though? I definitely would be using parental controls, and I know things would've been different if my parents had.
