Kevin McCarthy elected Speaker of the House after 14 losses

These are not the kind of concessions you want from a leader.

He’s so weak he’s effectively willing to give all members of his caucus a one vote veto against his leadership.

With rules like this, he can’t even run smooth operations or give cover to vulnerable members on hard votes. He’s handicapped himself before he’s even been elected.

The fact that some leftists would want to own this type of disorder for themselves is so… illuminating. :priceless:

I don't see even the massive amount of concessions helping McCarthy to cross the finish line. Now he just looks weak, and the Freedom Caucus will be like, "Oh, so he could have promised all these things at the very beginning and he just didn't because he's careerist and bankrupt."

It's just funny because at the end of the day McCarthy agrees with them on basically everything. He's not a "moderate" even for Republican Party standards. He voted against the Respect for Marriage bill, he pedaled Stop the Steal, he stayed loyal to Trump after January 6th. The biggest criticisms of him I've seen from the Republican base are for a speech he gave like a day after January 6th where he said Trump has to take some accountability (which he went back on and obviously Trump supports him to this day) and for wearing a Ukraine flag lapel pin. :rip: This is not at all similar to the Democratic Party where they have massive policy goal disagreements.

“Should never have been allowed to become Speaker”

Umm… are we talking about the same Pelosi?

Pelosi the one who stood up to Ronald Reagan’s homophobia at the height of the AIDS crisis?

Pelosi the one who protested China human rights violations…. IN China?

Pelosi the one who usurped power to become Democratic Leader??

The first woman speaker of the House… that Pelosi?

THE Pelosi who saved the world economy during the 2008 global financial meltdown?

Nancy who ushered in the largest expansion of US healthcare in half a century?

The thorn in Trump’s side Pelosi?

The de facto President of the United States on Jan 6th?

We‘re seriously talking about the lady who just flew to Taiwan in the face of Chinese threats to shoot down her plane caving to first year congresswoman Cori Bush and her other no-name, do-nothing attention seeking friends?  :bibliahh:The way some of y’all trying to equate this Democratic fundraising legend to that spineless, weasel Kevin McCarthy is so… Pelosi sweetie, I’m so sorry….  :rip:

Yes. That woman should have been nowhere near the Speakership after losing 1,000+ seats alongside Obama, Biden, Harry Reid's disastrous failed leadership. Deal with it.

MAGA already being more successful at moving their party to the right as a movement than progressives have been able to move their party to the left. :skull:

Good so can any of the so called “leftists” or “democratic socialists” stop pretending that these charlatans are anything other than controlled Opp? And can all of them stop giving them money and maybe give it to mutual aid groups in their communities instead? Their campaigns are an absolute waste of time and resources

The right consistently demonstrates that they will serve their own interests using any means necessary. I get that you want to pretend that the left, whose fight is for basic economic and human rights, is somehow equivalent to the right and claim that the left shouldn’t fight the same way to enact an agenda that serves the people. This is how dumb liberals are, they’ll swear by “parliamentary” norms til they’re blue in the face then feign outrage when “democracy is gone.” Lmao y’all let it go because you have no “fight” in govt let alone on the streets

That's HUGE! Too bad "progressives" were too spineless to make a single demand like this :jonny5:

They weren’t “spineless.” They deliberately will not challenge power. Was AOC giving her own campaign donations to several moderate Dem campaigns across the country not enough of an obvious sign?

The only positive out of this disaster: I’m totally down for term limits legislation for congressional members. That should be bipartisan. The swamp is allowed to fester when there’s no end in sight for many of these people. Too bad it’ll never pass the senate

Agreed, but that sounds like the type of thing state legislators should decide. States should decide how long their representatives can serve

At the federal level, I disagree. Should be equal for every member of congress

They’re not serving their interests. That’s the point. They’re shooting themselves in the foot. Think about it, their biggest political achievements in the past decade has been judges and tax cuts. And only one of those required legislation… which I’m not sure they could even pull off with today’s Republicans.

The fact of leftists looking at this total dysfunction and thinking, “Yes, this is the path to progress!” is confounding. Like what about this process looks like it will yield Republican legislative victories? They literally cannot govern. :rip:

The copium to downplay that 90% of Biden's presidency has been tanked by right wing judges blocking every substantial thing he does. :deadbanana4:

Must be easy having such a simplistic black-and-white worldview!

They are just continuing to move the goal posts to find an excuse not to vote for him. I don’t get what the press and what McCarthy doesn’t understand: there are enough members who will never vote for him, no matter what. He’s given up EVERYTHING and they still haven’t budged. He’s had their cult leader publicly beg for them to vote for him, and they still said NO. Kevin is done
