If "genius is transcendent" how is Donna Summer ranked lower than Taylor Swift or Ariana Grande? :skull:

She literally pioneered a whole music genre.

!!

And Madonna? Janet?

Still doesn't make any ******* sense. Why was that BTS guy ranked higher than Kelly ******* Clarkson as a singer? In addition, the mere fact that Taylor made it all the way to #102 and Celine was completely snubbed makes the list completely invalid, I'm sorry.

Gaslighting at its finest. Celine should have been included in the list.

Everyone took this way seriously. It's just a silly little clickbait list.

I'm not sure they were expecting as MUCH backlash as they got for leaving off Celine or for including Taylor :deadbanana4:

The amount of viral tweets about those two I've seen is :deadbanana4:

literally all of their lists are a nightmare, this is just another example

they're so full of **** :dies:

I feel like having a great voice would be the creative genius vs great singer just singing the words

Posted

This makes the ranking worse then

Posted

I suppose there is a slight difference - a person can have a great voice, but not necessarily be a great singer. Whitney Houston, for example, were both.

The NERVE they have :rip: All the write-ups talk about voices, the top-10 is very clearly about vocalists, and if it really is about "genius", where the hell are Janet Jackson, Donna Summer and Madonna, just to name a few? :rip:

It's pretty obvious this started off as a vocalists list, but the editors (read: Rob Sheffield) just had to include Taylor, Abel, Bob Dylan, etc., either for the sake of clickbait, personal preference, or just standard rock-pandering that RS is specialized in.

Posted

OK so why have bad singers with bad voices and exclude or under-rate great singers with great voices? :deadbanana4:

The paragrahs here… RS has been a joke since like 2016, it’s not that serious.

They felt the heat and now the backtracking

With all the discussions around how terrible this list is, they're getting exactly what they wanted, aka the clicks

why is jungkook on a list like this lol

To compile their list, Rolling Stone considered an artist’s “originality, influence, the depth of an artist’s catalog, and the breadth of their musical legacy.” See what they had to say about Jungkook below.

JHe hits high notes with ease and harmonizes with his members effortlessly, always giving his audience new ad-libs and unexpected vocal riffs to keep things interesting, from his official solo tracks like “Euphoria” to the covers he uploads for fans on BTS’ SoundCloud.

using this criteria there is no reason celine shouldnt be on this :deadbanana2:

That makes NO sense. They are so not credible anymore.

Babe i didn’t see Brandy, Monica, Mya OR Aaliyah? Everything alright? You ok? :next:

Also I'm sick of the "RS has been a joke for years it's not that serious" comments. Like yeah no **** they've had crappy opinions since forever, but even if this list had been written by a random nobody, we'd still have the right to criticize it for being blatantly dumb. :toofunny2:

JK doesn't even have a solo album/mini out and is on the list :rip: while veteran SINGERS being snubbed no matter it's about voice or influence. a joke :rip:
