They have trapped themselves in a corner. If the least is about the greatest voices, then why is Celine absent (and Cher, among others)? If the least is about the greatest "artists", then why isn't Madonna there and why is MJ so low?
C_Colstead Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 (edited) In that case, why are Michael, Donna etc as low as they are? Where is Madonna? Why is Celine still N/A? This literally makes it worse. They should just say they screwed up and go. Edited January 3, 2023 by C_Colstead

That is IMPACT and GENIUS, Rolling Stone! She was also responsible for a whole new genre and modern dance music as we know today The staff at Rolling Stone seem to be quite ignorant when it comes to Music History! Wait, they ignored Donna too?

The joke really writes itself THAT TOO. If it's not about pure vocal talent then Madonna should definitively be on the list. Madonna's voice is pretty distinctive and has a lot of charisma despite not being the best technically. Not only included, but also in the first positions of the list. Pop has been riding on her back since her debut. So, they make a list of best singers and do not include Celine. Then they say its not only about the singing abilities but about the whole package, and Madonna or Donna Summer is nowhere to be found. Make it make sense Rolling Turd. Boomers have many things to be critized for, but for music they have the best taste. After all they produced and lived through the best eras in music history. Their lists were way better than all these millenials / gen z (im millenial btw) since they started taking over those publications. I mean, this list looks like any random ARTLer personal list, not a comprehensive list coming from a group of educated real experts in music. Edited January 3, 2023 by pisuke
Both Sides Now Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 Wait Cher isn’t on it either? It went from worse to worser
Khal Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 (edited) That makes Madonna's exclusion even worse Edited January 3, 2023 by Khal

Gov Hooka Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 I refuse to give them clicks but if they only included rando k pop artists because of tokenism or some bs but left off the legend Ayumi Hamasaki then this might be one of the dumbest lists ever made
johnzy13 Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 Why are they backtracking? They usually stand by their lists no matter how bad they are

Mikeymoonshine Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 Their clarification doesn't change anything lol. What Is genius about the way Taylor Swift or the guy from bts sings? What do they have that Celine Dion doesn't? I can understand this argument for explaining why someone like Bob Dylan is on the list because his vocals are memorable even though he's not a great singer but that doesn't apply to the inclusions being criticised.
45seconds Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 (edited) 1 hour ago, truthteller said: how do you sing without voices? I think they are referring to the voice itself. Bob Dylan is a renowned lyricists but has at best, a mediocre singing voice teetering on bad. But it’s so distinctive that it’s endearing and as a result he’s one of the most successful musicians ever. So I understand what they are trying to rank. That doesn’t really excuse the glaring omission of Celine Dion. Or the inclusion of that BTS member for that matter. That was just straight up pandering. Edited January 3, 2023 by 45seconds

okgo Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 I never knew people still cared this much about what Rolling Stone publishes I mean yeah its a pretty disrespectful list to certain artists and I get its cuz it (randomly) went viral but if we go online searching for this kind of stuff to be outraged then the list of publications posting all sorts of random bs would be endless
X~MoviePoP Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 Either way celine dion needed to be on that list

ExHuman Posted January 3, 2023 Author Posted January 3, 2023 Sorry Celine, can't place a white vocalist in, the top 10 is for black singers. White people can't hold a note or generate a legacy

Myah Marie Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 Who really cares about this list besides this forum, stan twitter and people who have nothing to do with their lives? OT: they're not wrong tho. Sure it's kinda questionable some choices, but still, if people are so bothered, they should do their own list then...
