Why? She denounced these comments and said she regrets them immensely. She has changed a lot since 2011. That's like 12 years ago...why can't we believe someone is no longer homophobic? It's not self hate to believe ppl change for the better and regret things they said in the past.

Lmao SZA cant catch a break. She will be dragged by muslims for being a bad muslim and non muslims will drag her cuz she is a terrorist for them. Sultan of R&B should hide her beliefs untill she fully covers up and quit music i guess :gayrrycat1:

Being a muslim is just about believeing in one god and the prophets. If you believe then you are muslim no matter how revealing you dress or sing about haram topics. I bet she also knows how problematic it seems to muslims but she is being herself so no one could judge her beside god.

being a muslim means you submit to the laws of your god. its not just your believesystem. you dont have to be perfect but you should acknowledge that u are “haram” and try to better yourself if you are one.

Yes I also know that but if you have ''iman'' which is belief then you are considered muslim.

yeah she's more of a spiritual person than religious if that makes sense lol. Like she takes parts of different beliefs and stuff but her base religion is Islam. It's what she identifies with religiously. Also tons of ppl incorporate astrology and tarrot and ish even if they are of another religion :rip: Why is that different for muslims? In all Abrahamic faiths astrology and ish is seen as sinful yet if a Christian does it no one says they are not christian anymore. Muslims can do all that ish and still identify with their faith too. Especially those hwo live in the west and don't live in those super religious and strict countries like Iran and Saudi Arabia lol

Atrl is an odd place. It's either yall hate all muslims or when a muslim is liberal and modern then they are not muslim (even if they identify and tell you they are muslim :rip: ). It's like yall have a one size fits all idea of what a muslim is or should be and if they do not fit that model then it is impossible for them to be muslim because they are not out here doing things you think muslims would do.

Muslims like ALL religious groups come with different ideals, practices, levels of religiosity etc...Some do not identify with the faith and come from a muslim background and only culturally identify with Islam (which is the likely case with someone like Dua) but then there are those that LEGIT tell you they are muslim and appreciate the faith and practice certain things of it but because they are not in a hijab and are not super conservative or religious suddenly you cannot falthom that a muslim could practice their faith like how a lot of you casual christians practice yours  :rip: Tons of you still identify as christian (me included) even though we do not practice the faith too much. This is how it is with someone like SZA too and tons of other muslims. It's as simple as that yall.

There isn't just two forms of islam (super strict or not muslim anymore). There are lots of muslims who choose to identify as muslim and practice only some aspects or casually practice a bit here and there but still identify with their faith.

If she was actively spouting those views in 2023, maybe you'd have a point. But she's not and she has denounced those beliefs that she held 12 years ago. :rip: This need to refuse to let people grow, learn and change is really something that needs to be helped. Not people supporting SZA.

The fact that people crucify camila for some racist rts at 15 yet no one says anything about SZA being homphobic in her 20s is weird

not really sis. I have some muslim family members. This is something cool and unique (she's literally going to be the first). I know ATRL is islamaphobic but I did not know something like this could ALSO be transformed to something so damn negative and tiring with complex discussions about nuance, religiosity etc.. :deadbanana:

it's okay i am muslim myself, but at the end of the day, let people have their own opinion because i know the negative side of islam and it's not pretty :rip:

you said it here yourself sis. You are from a conservative muslim family. Meaning the only form of islam you seem to know is the one that is conservative. That said, you also need to acknowledge not everyone (and certainly not most) muslims follow your idea of islam being so unmalleable. Unless you are from Iran or Saudi Arabia i legit cannot believe you literally have this type of interpretation of islam as ALL muslims I met understand that there is nuance to islam. There are those that are super conservative, those that are not, those that only culturally identify with the faith, those that identify with the faith and do not follow the rules, those that follow some rules and do not identify with the faith but do it out of necessity, those that are nominal muslims etc...etc...etc...This is why I legit cannot understand how you can be muslim and say what you've been saying all throughout this thread...p.s: this is just out of genuine confusion and disbelief. Like I legit cannot understand how you can be muslim or from a muslim family and say you NEVER met a muslim woman who wears a bikini  :skull: That's like a significant amount of muslim girls in the west that still identify with Islam even if they do those things. And not just those that culturally identify with it but those that legit identify with the religion in general.

you should say that to the girls who came in and derailed this thread or made it a negative thing. This was a thread to talk about how she would be the first muslim female artist to top the hot 100. Somehow it transformed into a intense discussion on identity and a bunch of stuff lol. But I get what you mean. I have some family members who are Moroccan and yeah it can be really negative too of course

What a stupid remark. Religion in general sucks and Islam countries are the worst places in the world for women and LGBTQIA+ people.

Stop twisting critical thinking with hate speech.

You’re here discussing LGBT laws abroad in a thread about SZA (an individual woman who also supports the LGBT community) just because she’s Muslim. If you don’t realize how weird and uncalled for that is then :skull:

Islam countries are the worst places in the world for women and LGBTQIA+ people.

Out of the top 10 worst countries in the world for women 5 are Christian majority and 5 are muslim majority. This to me seems like it has more to do with whether or not your country is POOR and has been in a recent war more than religion itself as many muslim nations rank high enough when it comes to women's rights. The only exception is Saudi Arabia where it is a rich country, has not been in any major recent war and still super repressive to women. But otherwise, it seems to be a GLOBAL issue to be anti woman especially when in a poor country or one that is extremely unstable. Sadly women are the first to get the brunt of poverty and violence.

In regards to LGBTQIA+ I am certain muslim nations are probably most of the worst nations. Gay rights has a major way to go in that part of the world sadly.
