ATRL Moderator wehavetostan Posted January 2, 2023 ATRL Moderator Posted January 2, 2023 lol it was also the first female R&B album to spend its first 2 weeks at #1 since BEYONCÉ. Female R&B deserves so much more it’s crazy
lover. Posted January 2, 2023 Posted January 2, 2023 After years of gaslighting us into thinking we’re getting new music, Miss Solana came through and dropped a critical and commercial success.
slw84 Posted January 2, 2023 Posted January 2, 2023 (edited) The state of r&b is the pits. We need more juggernauts. Sza, Summer...H.E.R. and a few more but we need more male r&b artists consistently and about 5 more female r&b artists that are consistent when others. are in between eras. congrats to Sza. This will be her biggest album. Happy about that Edited January 2, 2023 by slw84
Bloodflowers. Posted January 2, 2023 Posted January 2, 2023 I miss when R&B girls were dominanting. Ashanti, Alicia Keys, Amerie, Ciara ughhh
family.guy123 Posted January 2, 2023 Posted January 2, 2023 I mean how many albums spend their first 3 weeks at #1 in the first place? I’d guess not many. What was the last female country album to spend it’s first 3 weeks at #1?

This post highlights the lack of mega R&B stars in comparison to the early 00s where female R&B singers were dominating the charts.

I don't think many R&B singers were spending multiple weeks at #1 on Billboard 200 in the early 2000s either Not even Beyonce did Only Usher with Confessions & Alicia Keys??

Fair enough! Yes I think Usher, AK, and maybe Mary? But all of them had #1 albums in the same calendar year while I'm pretty sure only Rihanna and Beyonce have gone #1 as R&B females since 2013 until this year with SZA and Lizzo (if you consider either of them really R&B) Edit: I forgot Summer Walker has been very successful but overall the 00s were better to R&B artists in terms of chart runs/peaks. Emancipation of Mimi got 2 weeks too *** Jhene Aiko's last album also debuted #1 but it didn't stay on top 2nd week

Yea it was very successful but never went #1. It was the highest peaking R&B female album since Lemonade, which lowkey proves my point lol. No female R&B album went #1 between May 2016 and Oct 2021. Still Over It - "debuted atop the US Billboard 200, becoming Walker's first number-one album, and the highest charting album from a female R&B artist since Beyoncé's Lemonade (2016)." At least a few would've gone #1 if this was 2004-2010. Jhene is massive tho!

kandicha Posted January 2, 2023 Posted January 2, 2023 Good for SZA, but that makes me sad that it’s been nine years since Beyoncé accomplished the same and makes me miss the days of R&B dominance from when I was a kid.
