Yeah Yeji tried to talk about it with JYPig but he didn’t even listen to what she said and talked about something else. Itzy had so much potential, they’re strength are dancing/performancing, they should focus on that! Hope they can bounce back

What’s their TT going to be? Cake?

I think his response is more "you guys are really talented and you'll have longevity based on that", even though it does somewhat ignore Yeji's current and surprisingly realistic concerns.

I do keep thinking the next Itzy release will be the last, even though I kind of love everything they put out, aside from Sneakers.

tell this to the person who made the tweet. isn’t that what companies are supposed to do… promote the song and then capitalize off the song’s popularity by continuing promotion? isn’t that how the industry works? maybe some other companies should take note?

By all means yes. But a fully promoted single with 100 performances, 1000 tiktok challenges, a music video, etc. is not a “bside” at that point anymore

an essay:

it’s not about the worth but popularity and success metric - one person can buy multiple copies of one album and it’s not filtered in Korea, so we don’t have any idea about the real popularity of kpop groups

I know blinks are mass buyers too, like all big fandoms, but then you have other stats to back up BP’s status which are record breaking tour numbers and streaming numbers that can fit among main pop acts

yes, lizards are mass streaming Money rn and that’s why you don’t see it on the chart, but then BP has multiple songs charting for weeks in the top 50 and topped that chart too - same goes for yt and both platforms have official charts and filter the numbers (most of the kpop acts have a lot of fake numbers under their mvs, but BP is not one of them as their stats there match the yt chart) - tell me how long did Spicy chart in the Spotify top200? two days? oh god, such an improvement from debuting and being out the next day like they did with Girls last year :rip: I’m not saying that to put aespa down, they just lack in that department but it’s nothing wrong and it’s the truth! I don’t need to live in denial of them being on top of the kpop world to enjoy their music, same way as I don’t need to pretend that BP is the most talented gg out there to support them and like their output

you can agree or not but streaming is the main factor that determines popularity in 2023 and the most popular music consuming method rn

majority of the people aren’t listening to their cds and even for the ones who do, it’s still not the main way of consuming music

you want me to imagine that 2m people who bought aespa’s albums listen to it on their cd players and aren’t using any streaming platform? you’re not using any streaming platform?

also SM acts are the only one who have big album sales but don’t appear on IFPI lists so it’s a bit fishy

I get that it’s about public consumption, but we’ve found out that at least 39-104 Billion streams a year are faked and we know that multiple sources are fabricating them. While I think it’s fair to compare the artists who use Discovery Mode and have massive fanbases manipulating their streams (BTS, BlackPink, Drake, Taylor Swift, etc.), you can’t compare them to artists that don’t have that payola (SM, JYP, legacy acts, etc.).

And for the record, I recognize that BlackPink is a massive act. I have bought every version of their albums, I have bought every digital single (except BOOmbayah) and they have three songs in my most streamed songs ever. My initial drag wasn’t about them - it was about third gen stans not recognizing fourth gen for their growth.

Also, I have been pro-streaming for decades. I’m part of the fanbase that initially started streaming records (the Army with AOL First Listen) and I brought SEAs/TEAs to ATRL back in the day. That being said, there has to be some sort of standard. Usually, you have to prove music consumption and price point. Like, we used to exclude the sale of used CDs because the “consumption” was considered to already be shown in the original CD sale since that owner is clearly not listening but the new owner is. Or how we would exclude merchandise CD sales because they were considered secondary to the product so the price point wasn’t there and the music was considered to be an advertisement for the artist. On-Demand streaming definitely shows us how people are consuming music. But playlisting has perverted that and Spotify includes all tertiary plays as if they’re On-Demand streams and it inflated numbers drastically.

Also, IFPI is not actually a great source. Paramore was able to chart CrushCrushCrush due to free Korean downloads. But if IFPI was consistent, songs like Gee, I Don’t Care and so many more would have made their charts. IFPI has screwed everyone from SISTAR to SNSD to 2NE1 over.

Digitals don’t really make money on their own and albums make significantly more. ITZY are significantly more profitable now than when they were scoring digital hits so there’s no need to worry about them disbanding anytime soon, especially now that they can tour.

The biggest fear would be them getting shelved when JYP unveils their fifth gen girl group, but we have two years until that happens and ITZY will have already had a long and successful career by then.

Also itzy still get brand endorsements. Even if their budget goes down I wouldn’t be too worried just yet.

Damn looks like Treasure will now also be aiming more towards the west. Guessing YG wants more of the international market other than just Asia. I do think it'll be harder for them since the group doesn't have a fluent English speaker. I mean either does Ateez and I think that has limited their success (they got a loyal fan base that buys albums tho).

Then we got a group like The Boyz who has 3 English speakers yet they're in a group that primarily focuses on Korea. Wasted opportunity lol

What's up with Kep1er?

Spotify streams:

1. Wa Da Da - 149M

2. Up! - 44M

3. We Fresh - 8M

4. Giddy - 6M

The fact their 2 latest title tracks haven't even crossed 10M streams yet should be alarming

I’m pretty sure they’re up for disbandment shortly
