Vermillion Posted December 31, 2022 Posted December 31, 2022 Quote Mr. Bolsonaro’s decision to spend at least the first weeks of Mr. Lula’s presidency in Florida shows his unease about his future in Brazil. Mr. Bolsonaro, 67, is linked to five separate inquiries, including one into his release of documents related to a classified investigation, another on his attacks on Brazil’s voting machines and another into his potential connections to “digital militias” that spread misinformation on his behalf. As a regular citizen, Mr. Bolsonaro will now lose the prosecutorial immunity he had as president. Some cases against him will probably be moved to local courts from the Supreme Court. It is unlikely that Mr. Bolsonaro’s presence in the US could protect him from prosecution in Brazil. Mr. Bolsonaro plans to stay in Florida for one to three months, giving him some distance to observe whether Mr. Lula’s administration will push any of the investigations against him. X UPDATE

Bears01 Posted December 31, 2022 Posted December 31, 2022 Why is it always Florida smh truly the Mecca of fascists, grifters, and lunatics. The weather might be nice, but everything else involving the state would make me RUN away

Half of the population of Florida is basically right-wing dissidents who fled going to jail for crimes in their previous countries. Edited January 1, 2023 by Communion

Letemtalk Posted January 1, 2023 Posted January 1, 2023 Just like Ferdinand Marcos who fled to Hawaii, these sort of people will always be welcome in the United States if they have enough money stashed outside of the country they stole it from. They know that the US, just like Russia, Saudi Arabia and China, is not a signatory to the International Criminal Court (ICC). Of course, they still might have to face civil prosecution, but that's just money and good lawyers can keep you out of court for a long time.
