Power love Posted December 28, 2022 Posted December 28, 2022 Whitney, Celine, Janet, Toni & Madonna ruled the 90s
naval23 Posted December 28, 2022 Posted December 28, 2022 Yessss The fact she pushed 115M+ albums in the 90s alone is insane
Gabers05 Posted December 28, 2022 Posted December 28, 2022 (edited) OMG she really dominated selling that much in a decade. Insane but deserved. Edited December 28, 2022 by Gabers05
Last Boy on Earth Posted December 28, 2022 Posted December 28, 2022 Damn even the titles are basic lol
GlamSlam Posted December 28, 2022 Posted December 28, 2022 You forgot "The Color of my Love" (20M) - one of her best albums.
Mystic Boy Posted December 28, 2022 Posted December 28, 2022 The Colour of Love deserves its spot too, it was huge! Her 90s career is phenomenal and amazing to contemplate The steady climb between UNISON to LTAL is one of the best music industry studies ever , René and her really did that
Keter Posted December 28, 2022 Posted December 28, 2022 Yes and Celine was very disciplined! I really admire her as a vocalist for that. Misled shocked me first time I heard it. She has a very diverse discography and she sings it very well.

stevyy Posted December 28, 2022 Posted December 28, 2022 The last and only great decade for female vocalists and Céline slayed it.

Yeah… as much as I like Taylor and think she’s saved the music industry, there is something special about the 90s nostalgia. I miss hearing Celine, Shania Twain, Mariah, Cher, Jessica Simpson (her power ballads), and Faith Hill on the radio… when songs were actually lyrically deep and meaningful.

What I love about the 90s is that even older acts could still get a piece of the pie... like a Streisand or Aretha etc.. who were able to collect huge sales and were even on the verge of reaching the H100 or did many times over. In my country of Germany, older acts usually chart and sell better than younger acts and this was still the case in the 90s basically everywhere. Even in the UK it is still possible today. The US has become such a toxic place for acts beyond the H100. A couple of years ago Sheryl Crow said that she knows that releasing music is pointless bc it either wouldn't chart or wouldn't sell enough to make any profit and she said that she will only release another album if she has something to say. (Alanis Morissette said the same btw). The market - albeit so huge due to streaming - has also become so small. Yes, streaming is huge, but the majority of streams tend to go to old music which used to be popular, like old Beatles, Queen etc stuff... Older acts releasing something new and current will never get any substantial support. In the 1990s you could chart at like #69 on the BB200 and still sell 500,000 or even 1 million albums and make a good profit. In 2022 you debut at #69 and made like $3000 in revenue.
stevyy Posted December 28, 2022 Posted December 28, 2022 BTW looking at those Céline stats, she made like $3 billion for SONY music with those albums (ON TOP of her touring success). If the phrase "XY is the music industry" was ever true, it was during the 1990s with those vocalists.
byzantium Posted December 28, 2022 Posted December 28, 2022 Probably the biggest peak of all time. That 5 year stretch was legendary.
Nightingale Posted December 28, 2022 Posted December 28, 2022 Yes. Her slayage was insane and she had some classics
1989 Posted December 29, 2022 Posted December 29, 2022 The way that The Colour Of My Love, D’eux, and Falling Into You are some of the absolute best albums ever. Let’s Talk About Love is also a really solid album, too.
