NOW Posted December 27, 2022 Posted December 27, 2022 (edited) From an interview she just did on WTF Podcast with Marc Maron: Quote “Overculture,” she said, is a term she learned from Lana Del Rey, who got it from author Clarissa Estés. “Now, when you get famous… some kid like Doja Cat, or whatever, it’s a 360 degree. Like, they see every—, up your panties, everything bad you ever said, that whole Chinese ‘one person one file,’ yeah the kids’ll know.” Quote Elsewhere, Love had high praise for her one-time tourmate Lana Del Rey, who has become “an actual true, great friend.” “Lana and Kurt are the only two true musical geniuses I’ve ever known,” Love said. “And by that I mean they can Spielberg anything.” She compared LDR reciting Allen Ginsberg’s Howl to Nirvana covering the Meat Puppets on MTV Unplugged In New York: they “Spielberged” it. She’s a genius, too. She’s got the integrity that Kurt had. The only two people I know that I can say… By the way, Stipe? Bono? Yes, these are people that I know and love. Billie Joe, sure. But Lana? She’s got a magic thing. And she’s not even ****** up!” Quote Love also claimed she introduced Lana Del Rey to the music of Joni Mitchell. “She described a record she wanted to make to me, and I’m like, ‘Oh you mean Hissing Of Summer Lawns,’ which, I don’t even like that record. She’s like, ‘what’s that?’ I’m like, ‘It’s a Joni Mitchell record.’ She’s like, ‘Who’s that?'” “Wow,” Maron interjects. Love: “I know.” Love said that she got her friend “all the Joni” vinyl at a Portland record store after which Lana “changed her ******* whole thing.” Quote “My boomer rock critic friends are calling after Norman Rockwell, ‘Hey your friend, she’s pretty good…’ And I said to her, ‘Welcome to the Thunderdome, Ms. Del Rey.’ Even Springsteen! He goes, ‘She’s our greatest songwriter.'” Love told her, “don’t go insane” and Lana hasn’t because “she got out of the overculture. She deleted all her social. **** that ****.” Podcast writeup by Stereogum; https://www.stereogum.com/2209187/courtney-love-lana-del-rey-nirvana-brad-pitt/news/ Edited December 28, 2022 by NOW

Bloodflowers. Posted December 27, 2022 Posted December 27, 2022 I need Lana to make I Don't Know Where I Stand 2.0 and I Think I Understand 2.0 Thank you "Petals" hitmaker Ms. Love for making Lana discover the greatest songwriter of the 20th century
KatyPrismSpirit Posted December 27, 2022 Posted December 27, 2022 so she is responsible for that atrocious For Free cover that is a stain in her catalog?

Yes but also NFR! which shifted her image into new territory. We're gonna need Ms. Love to play tastemaker to Lana once again and introduce her to PJ Harvey next though:

Still can't forget how Courtney embarrassed herself by covering To Bring You My Love

Still can't forget how Courtney embarrassed herself by covering To Bring You My Love It's interesting because she has her clear 90s favorites like Nirvana, Hole, Sublime, RHCP, Pearl Jam, Biggie, Oasis, Jewel, and Liz Phair but doesn't go out of her way to familiarize herself with all the artists. Same way she gravitated towards just Bob, Joan, and Nina but not Joni or Carol until later when someone told her.
HRH Posted December 27, 2022 Posted December 27, 2022 Lana and Joni are queens, but Lana seriously needs to dump this loser

I think it comes with the songwriter territory. I don't think that she recreates Joni songs. She covered one of her tracks, but the writing is completly different. Many Lana stans hear a piano and freak out, but that is the natural progression for her. Idk, I also don't want her to discover artists and then tries to sound like them or do something they have already done.

She is smart for always explicitly namedropping the artist or a line from their songs. It's served her well whenever she's mentioned who her influences are but the music is still very much her. I personally don't hear any Hissing of Summer Lawns-inspired stuff from her minus the iconic Dance Till We Die bridge, but Ladies of the Canyon has had a definite chokehold on her after all these years.

Starchild Posted December 28, 2022 Posted December 28, 2022 This delusional woman lord (not the Lana comment, the general high as hell and I'm just blabbering vibe)

All those bands mentioned were mainstream so I guess she liked more popular music, there's nothing wrong with that tho and as she got older she developed a wider music taste

Ice Cream Skies Posted December 28, 2022 Posted December 28, 2022 Yeah, it was so embarrassing bc Lana was out building her own career and making her own name, not sitting on ATRL all day like us

NOW Posted December 28, 2022 Author Posted December 28, 2022 Quote Her praise for the "Did You Know That There's a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd" musician is especially fitting, as Love is currently working on her first album since Hole's Nobody's Daughter in 2010 alongside Anthony Rossomando of Dirty Pretty Things and Justin Parker, who worked extensively on Del Rey's major label debut, Born to Die. I missed this - but I noticed Lana likes to introduce her creative team for previous albums to all her friends. What would a new Lana + Justin Parker single sound like in this decade? @ontherocks
Ricky Wilson Posted December 28, 2022 Posted December 28, 2022 The absolute DELUSION omg Surely the My ***** tastes like Pepsi Cola "singer" is a genius
HRH Posted December 28, 2022 Posted December 28, 2022 Hissing Of Summer Lawns is Joni's best album (along with Hejira) Courtney can **** off tho
