shinyshimmery Posted December 27, 2022 Posted December 27, 2022 Yeah bc we keep getting fooled into thinking sequels are gonna be good
Da Vinci Posted December 27, 2022 Posted December 27, 2022 Yeah I feel like movies are just TV shows with a bigger budget now Thank you streaming!
DONTYELLATME Posted December 27, 2022 Posted December 27, 2022 Movie tickets are expensive and people want to know that they are getting their money’s worth. They really don’t wanna worry about if the movie is good or bad. These franchises provide security for studios and audiences. Horror movies also provide an experience that you probably can’t get at home which is why they are the only genre smashing along with franchise fare. Audiences are now also used to waiting for drama, comedies and probably animated movies to hit streaming services due to reduced theater lifespan and also the quality of TV has surpassed movies IMO. You’re getting TV with movie budget these days.
harwee Posted December 27, 2022 Posted December 27, 2022 when people say your favorite blockbuster is fastfood, its not a shade, its just fax.
qurl Posted December 27, 2022 Posted December 27, 2022 people yearn for nostalgia …. which is an indictment of the present / future. it’s sad really
fridayteenage Posted December 27, 2022 Posted December 27, 2022 Luckily we have filmmakers like Daniel kwan and Taylor swift serving quality
Gorjesspazze9 Posted December 27, 2022 Posted December 27, 2022 Sequels been ruling Hollywood for the past 20 years tho. The Harry Potter Franchise, Spider-Man, The MCU, The Pirates of Caribbean movies, Twilight, Fast & Furious, Jurassic Worlds, Disney & Pixar In General. I.P’s been ruling the top grossing movies of the past 2 decades, unlike in the 90’s & 80’s when sequels weren’t as successful as the previous films

Is it all just gonna be rehashes of the IPs from the 2000s and before? (Even the new MCU movies with new heroes are the sequels to the Infinity Saga so they don't count)
Lawssance Posted December 28, 2022 Posted December 28, 2022 COVID and streaming made it worse for original films. No one wants to come out for theaters and risk their health unless it’s something they’re familiar with. The original films that they have gone to, don’t really end up connecting with the audiences. The bloodbath that will be next summer though at the box office will be interesting.
est. in 90s Posted December 28, 2022 Posted December 28, 2022 No wonder most mainstream films nowadays are so stale and redundant.
Starfish Posted December 28, 2022 Posted December 28, 2022 Fran Drescher made a movie in 2019 that explains this. Studio executives want to hear pitches that they already like. They don't want something new, they want something familiar.
