Danny789 Posted December 27, 2022 Posted December 27, 2022 (edited) Most authors throughout history were terrible people and the art has thankfully outlived them and they just became a faceless name Edited December 27, 2022 by Danny789
Obsession Posted December 27, 2022 Posted December 27, 2022 She'll always have an air of controversy around her until she dies, at which point the legacy of Harry Potter will kind of subsume her transphobia after her death.
Mikeymoonshine Posted December 27, 2022 Posted December 27, 2022 People pushing the "nobody cares about transphobia" narrative a lot here. That's not entirely untrue but just because a topic isn't the majority of people's main priority doesn't mean it can't affect how someone is remembered. A lot of racist, misogynistic and homophobic campaigners of the past are known as that today even if those topics weren't as important to the GP back then. Lovecraft is very much remembered as a racist, Orson Scott Card's name is heavily associated with his homophobic activism. Younger people are more likely to support trans people. Jk rowling will be remembered for her transphobic views and the atrl users who support her will be seen like racist/homophobic boomers are seen today. Bitter and irrelevant.
Kavish Posted December 27, 2022 Posted December 27, 2022 All the online criticism and hatred against her are having minimal effect on the popularity of her work: Bloomsbury reported an increase of 35% in sales for the series in 2022. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (now a 25 year old book) is the 2nd best-selling children's book in 2022 according to UK Nielsen Bookscan. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (released 19 years ago) topped USA's Today Best-Selling Book list again in October 2022. Even her non-Harry Potter book, "The Ink Black Heart" became a best-seller this year which proves that readers are still enamoured with her writing. The Harry Potter theme parks are still packed and the merchandise is still selling like crazy. All this lead me to the conclusion that J.K. Rowling will be remembered as the Harry Potter author who impacted a whole generation and still does. I'm sure her controversy will be remembered within anti-trans discourses though.
HRH Posted December 27, 2022 Posted December 27, 2022 As a talented and successful woman who showed her true colours by supporting Johnny Depp

I asked her what she thought about JK Rowling these days and she didn't even know about JKs field trip against trans people. Maybe it's the same with the GP? This! Same exact thing when I bring up her controversies to my friends who are HP fans. Tbh if it wasn't for ATRL I wouldn't know about any of this
Alldeezy Posted December 28, 2022 Posted December 28, 2022 she will always be known as that Harry Potter lady to me
Wonderland Posted December 28, 2022 Posted December 28, 2022 The author of the Harry Potter series. But she will always have a big, transphobic asterisk next to her name.
VOSS Posted December 28, 2022 Posted December 28, 2022 It’s too early to tell. I’m sure there will always be people who see her as a disgusting terf depending on which direction the Overton window moves. Most people will probably just know her as the Harry Potter lady unless she gets herself truly canceled.
The7thStranger Posted December 28, 2022 Posted December 28, 2022 As a queerphobic hack tbh. She's not a great writer (never was). She's just a writer who took somebody else's idea and ran with it all the way to the bank. Harry Potter (at least the first three to five books) may be beloved, but she isn't.

Mr.Link Posted December 30, 2022 Posted December 30, 2022 She won’t. She’s not a household name like Shakespeare or even Stephen King. Her one-hit wonder book saga outpeaked her persona a long time ago especially now that she’s openly vile.
Dessy Posted December 30, 2022 Posted December 30, 2022 Like other problematic authors with successful books
tellem Posted December 30, 2022 Posted December 30, 2022 people will remember that Harry Potter was a big deal in the 2000s. I don’t think they’ll still be reading it though

That's what the gp will remember her as. Pretty much this! I think people forget that there’s an entire world outside of Twitter that have no idea about the things she tweets.
Miss Show Business Posted December 30, 2022 Posted December 30, 2022 She destroyed her legacy. She won't be remembered for her books, but for her obsession with anti-trans ideology...

KillingYourCareer Posted December 30, 2022 Posted December 30, 2022 For Harry Potter, of course. Imagine being bubbled to the point you think the GP cares about anything else
