Bigger: California or Germany?

You don't need to state it because that's what your comment implies.

The statement "Germany lost two world wars" implies that WW1 and WW2 are comparable in the sense that both were actively caused and intended by Germany since you can not win or lose a war without having (or not having) the goal to do so in the first place.

However, unlike WW2, the causes of WW1 are incredibly complex, multi-faceted and still being debated to this day - including the question to what degree a world war was even intended by any of the belligerents.

So, in light of the above, it's incorrect to say "Germany lost two world wars" - unless you want to incorrectly frame WW1 as a "German war" just like WW2.

It's true that Germany was ultimately held responsible for WW1, but those are two separate things.

I'm not that user, but this makes zero sense. Germany did lose both wars, the UK did win both wars. Both of these statements are facts, as Germany was on the losing side of the war. I know English can often be vague and lead to confusion.

It is fundamentally wrong to name WW1 and WW2 in the same breath and use the same terminology for it when it comes to Germany.

The latter was unilaterally started, intended and planned by Germany, while the other was a partially unanticipated, mutually caused global conflict whose origins are still being debated to this day.

The phrase "Germany lost two world wars" equates the two and assigns the same kind of agency to Germany in WW1 as in WW2 which is factually incorrect, regardless of what the outcome was.

It may look like a meaningless distinction to you, to anyone with a German background it's a fundamental difference.

Yea, no. The point is going over your head. The statement does not imply Germany started WWI. It does imply Germany lost, which is in fact true.

I disagree. It creates a misleading picture by equating things that should never be equated because their underlying characteristics are not comparable and neither is the nature of the "loss".

Are you skirting around the fact that Germany lost both wars? What are they teaching you in that country…

I'm not "skirting around" anything, I'm stating obvious facts. What are they teaching you in your country?

Germany flopping due to energy crisis. California continues her reign as MPG.

That Germany lost WWI, and they also lost WW2. A fact taught in the majority of the world. I guess not in Germany.

You're right because we don't just lump two completely distinct phenomena together that have nothing in common except being world wars and disregard key differences by using the same misleading terminology for two different sets of facts.

If you're in the top 1%: California.

If you're not: Germany.

Okay it's not that serious. And they lost two wars.

California is a terrible place to live when compared to Germany. This isn’t even a contest. There is a comparatively terrible social safety net in Cali and a vast majority of the population works shitty jobs for shitty pay there. The entire agricultural sector is propped up by cheap migrant labor

California is, and like the US a third world country.

Germans enjoy actual high standards of living, smaller inequality, and police officers that will likely not kill you for being black, don’t have to worry about being shot and killed at school, the mall or anywhere else, and one injury won’t put you in a lifetime of debt. You don’t even have to worry about selling your house to afford insulin.

That's your brain on far-left propaganda.

lmao sis I'm living in Germany but you guys can't not getting out of being 2-time WW loser on technicality. It's how everyone about the world acknowledge, you guys have some redemption qualities so why focus on defending this out of all things :skull:

Germany lost twice.

I would much rather live in Germany than in any US state, especially California.... but Germany did lose 2 world wars, why is that even being debated? :skull:

Now, California is more important now as the home of Hollywood and also a global tech hub.

Living standards are generally better in Germany though.

I guess California right now.  I’ve lived in both … I guess I’d prefer to live in Germany.  I like where I live now in California but people in this thread are correct that the homelessness situation is out of control, honestly though it’s not really Californias fault as California is the only state that offers a sliver of assistance to many homeless people.
