Pikachoo Posted December 26, 2022 Posted December 26, 2022 When I watch this movie, I legit forget that this is Mariah. This is THE voice and THE diva. She's so convincing. She needs to do more serious acting like this, I was so impressed. And dont get me wrong, Gaga is my fave, and she's a good actress, but I never forget that it's "Gaga" in the movie. same with any film Madge or Cher has made. i still know they are famous popstars. but Mariah had me completely fooled and sucked into her character. i truly believed her as a social worker. 1
suburbannature Posted December 26, 2022 Posted December 26, 2022 It’s too short of a performance to compare to leading roles by Babs and Cher, but it’s an amazing supporting performance. 1
naval23 Posted December 26, 2022 Posted December 26, 2022 Gurl The movie was amazing but Monique carried
lonnie Posted December 26, 2022 Posted December 26, 2022 I will say I was a bit floored when I saw her performance. Mariah in a dusty wig looking HAGGARD on purpose? I never thought I'd ever see the day. I don't think it was the best acting performance by a pop girl necessarily, but it was really good.
Blue Monday Posted December 26, 2022 Posted December 26, 2022 What's most impressive to me is how her star power doesn't distract from the work; it's a true supporting performance. The transformation is definitely doing some work here but she more than holds her own against Mo'Nique and Gabourey. In fact, if she had more screen time I might compare it to Cher's work in Silkwood (which just makes me sad we never got Mariah's Moonstruck or Mask). 1
CottageHore Posted June 17 Posted June 17 (edited) Just watched this again for grad school and Mariah's acting in this is superb. So natural and convincing. You can tell she's truly embodying the character, it's as if she's not even acting. Edited June 17 by CottageHore 1
