AlanRickman1946 Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 (edited) Cardinal Vincent Nichols said preserving the traditional songs was more important than ‘sensitivities which come and go’. His comments came after a Church of England carol service sparked outrage by featuring an ‘inclusive’ version of God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman. The original is God rest ye merry gentlemen Let nothing you dismay The updated verses of the 17th-century carol included the lines ‘God rest you also, women, who by men have been erased’ and ‘God rest you, queer and questioning’. KillingYourCareer Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 He's right. A classic is a classic. Would you change the "if you're a boy or a girl" lyric of Madonna's Vogue? I think not!
Valentine Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 ‘God rest you, queer and questioning’ Finally I can rest
Iridesence Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 “Sensitivities which come and go” is a bit I do agree that the lyrics change was just a tad forced. I can guarantee most gays don’t give a **** about a Christmas carol titled ‘God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman’
