Kevin2803 Posted December 29, 2022 Author Posted December 29, 2022 The year is almost over and i don't think i will watch many new movies in the next two days, so i will start with my Best Of list today. It was actually really hard to rank movies this year, because there were so many great horror movies. So i decided to split my list into horror movies and non-horror movies. I will start today with my FLOP 10 NON-HORROR MOVIES. 1. A Day to Die Bruce Willis didn't deserve this to be one of his last movies in cinema. Everything here is atrocious. Horrible acting, laughable dialogues and special effects that look like they cost 30$. I can't think of anything positive about this movie. 2. Cloudy Mountain I left the cinema hall multiple times, because this movie was just torture. I love disaster movies, but this one had zero tension, bad acting and not even good special effects. A waste of time. 3. Junkrat Train Besides the awful CGI rats, his movie is actually competently made and that is the problem. It takes itself way too serious for these trashy animates rats. And worst of all, „Junkrat Train“ left me feeling indifferent, which is the worst thing a movie can do. 4. Out of Death Another Bruce Willis movie on this list. The music is horrendous and the movie feels like three hours. So boring and no tension. Jamie King, you can do better than this. 5. Love & Gelato Susanna Skaggs has to have some connections to someone involved with this production. Otherwise, i can't explain how she got that role. She was AWFUL. The way she delivered some lines were so cringe. But the script was also ****, to be fair. 6. Dear Zoe Sadie Sink and Jessica Capshaw are great, but the script is so weak that even they couldn't save it. What could've been a deeply emotional movie about grief and trauma feels like a cheesy and melodramatic Lifetime movie. The constant dramatic pop songs and cringe voice-overs take every genuine emotion out of the movie. 7. Dog Dogs are awesome, this movie isn't. I thought i would be emotionally invested just because of the dog, but i felt absolutely nothing. This movie wasn't funny, it wasn't emotional, it was just pointless. 8. Brazen It almost can't get more generic and predictable than this romantic crime thriller. Very Lifetime-ish. I only watched for Alyssa Milano, but there was no chemistry between her an Sam Page. No tension, nothing new or exciting, the whole movie was basically just acceptable background noise. 9. Shattered The only thing this movie shattered is my will to live. On a positive note, this movie had a good-looking cast and some of the scenes, while unintentionally, were pretty funny. But everything else was just bad. 10. Over & Out This movie just didn't want to end. It was almost physically exhausting. Had like two or three decent moments, but everything else was just the same old generic german comedy with the same old stereotypes. REPLIES On 12/23/2022 at 6:13 PM, Mr. Loco said: Wait... TheWayWeWere Posted December 29, 2022 Posted December 29, 2022 Brazen was the only one I've seen (because of Alicia basically) and it was a mess
Kevin2803 Posted December 30, 2022 Author Posted December 30, 2022 Flop 10 Horror Movies 1. The Requin Was Alicia Silverstone always that bad as an actress? This was ridiculous. Even the actors who usually make trash movies like this give better performances. And the special effects? This movie did cost 8 million dollars. On what did they spend all this money? 2. Dark Glasses This has to be a parody of something, because otherwise i can't explain what they tried to do. I can't believe Dario Argento did go from "Suspiria" to whatever this was. "Dark Glasses" is horrible. The dialogues are awful, the story is all over the place and feels so randomly thrown together and the only good thing were the score and some of the practical effects. 3. The Resort Well, this was a bore. I hoped for something like "Fantasy Island". Bad, but still fun. However, it took way too long before something even happened, especially for the already short runtime. Some pretty people and nature shots though and i also liked the music. 4. Arthur, Malédiction Literally nothing is happening in the first 45 minutes. And everything that comes after that is mediocre at best. There are like two or three okay-ish horror moments and a little bit of gore. Everything else, from the acting to the explanation, is a mess. They explain everything in like one sentence at the end and, hard to believe, but it makes the movie even more random. 5. They/Them The title itself is actually genius and there are few short moments that feel genuine and show that there was potential to make a good and meaningful horror movie about conversion therapy, but they wasted it. And i just despise slashers without... slashing. Barely anything is happening for over an hour and most kills are tame or happen off-screen. 6. Swim Bad, but the fun kind of bad. The CGI was horrible, although this was expected. Horrible dialogues, the acting was mid, but the cinematography, besides the CGI, was actually okay-ish. 7. Umma I adore Sandra Oh and she is not the problem of this movie. The script is. It's so bland, forgettable and not even bad in a fun way. 8. The Cat Cats are evil? Shocker. Generic ghost horror from South Korea. Not awful, but pretty bland and kinda boring. The ending was sad tho. This movie is actually from 2011, but was released in Germany in 2022. 9. Jeepers Creepers: Reborn Oh my... this was not good. Not that i expected it to be good, but it was not even fun in a trashy way, like the second movie. The CGI was god damn awful. I swear, not once did these actors set foot outside of a movie studio. Nothing looked real. And the Creeper himself lost almost everything from his mysterious presence that made him so creepy in the first one. Atleast the gore was mostly practical effects, but that didn't save much. 10. Bring It On: Cheer or Die Could've been iconic, but is just cringe, bloodless and mediocre instead. Kerri Medders has a decent final girl vibe tho and like two or three scenes were atleast a little bit fun. REPLIES 18 hours ago, TheWayWeWere said: Brazen was the only one I've seen (because of Alicia basically) and it was a mess I only know Alyssa But yes, it was bad.
Mr. Blue_Shirt Posted December 30, 2022 Posted December 30, 2022 Bruce Willis having back-to-back flops Sometimes former movie stars suck to find a good ass script to further their legacy like- I kinda want to see that Bring it On horror movie version but i knew as soon as i watched the trailer it's going to be that straight-to-dvd mess Let me add to my watchlist for the kiis

Kevin2803 Posted December 31, 2022 Author Posted December 31, 2022 (edited) Top 20 Non-Horror Movies 11. Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery While not completely as great as its predecessor, „Glass Onion“ is still a fun murder mystery with an excellent cast, especially Janelle Monáe, who was a standout. 12. Cha Cha Real Smooth A little bit similar to "The Worst Person in the World". But while the former feels more authentic, "Cha Cha Real Smooth" has more warmth and hit me harder emotionally. It might be a little narcisstic for Cooper Raiff to cast himself as the lead in his own movie, but he did a pretty good job. And Dakota Johnson... just marry me already. 13. Bros I thought i would hate this, but i really enjoyed it. It is really funny, so self-aware and touches on LGBTQ topic sometimes uncomfortably accurate. 14. Thor: Love and Thunder While "Thor: Love and Thunder" has, more or less, the same comedic tone as "Thor: Ragnorak", it balances it much better. The comedic scenes are hilarious and always on the verge of being too ridiculous, but manage to take it back a little bit every time, so that the humour doesn't take away too much from the darker or more emotional moments. 15. Marry Me Ridiculous...ly cute. Exactly what you expect. A predictable 00's throwback rom-com with a charming cast and nice soundtrack. 16. Where The Crawdads Sing "Where the Crawdads Sing" is visually the most gorgeous movie i've watched this year. The landscape shots of the marsh are hauntingly beautiful, almost fairytale-like. The storyline is very simplistic, yet captivating. 17. About Fate The cast is *chef's kiss*. Very predictable and cheesy, but it just pushes the right buttons. So, so sweet. And Thomas Mann... i don't know what's wrong with my taste in men. I always like the most basic white guys ever. 18. Dual "Dual" is a fascinating movie. The dry delivery of the dialogues reminded me a little bit of "The Killing of a Sacred Deer" and Riley Stearns' script adds some dark humor, which works surprisingly well. 19. The Batman „The Batman“ felt less like a superhero movie and more like something similar to "Se7en" or even a little bit of "SAW", just not as gruesome. Loved the cinematography and especially the score. 20. Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore Easily the best one out of the "Fantastic Beasts" movies. The first one was too light-hearted, the second one a little too dark and convoluted, but the third one nicely blends the dark and lighter moments in a way that feels even. Kevin2803 Posted January 1, 2023 Author Posted January 1, 2023 Top 20 Non-Horror Movies 1. Everything Everywhere All At Once Probably the craziest and at the same time best film I have seen in a long time, especially this year. Everything about this movie is a 10 out of 10. Incredibly well-written characters, over-the-top but spectacular fight scenes and a script that made me laugh and ugly cry at the same time. 2. The Woman King Such a fantastic movie. Powerful storytelling, incredible performances and epic fight scenes. The pacing was great aswell. Viola Davis, Lashana Lynch and Thuso Mbedu all deserve oscar nominations. 3. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" deals with Chadwick Boseman's death very sensitively and beautifully pays tribute to him and his character, while starting a new chapter in the storyline. The visuals were amazing, as well as the soundtrack. 4. Sing 2 Although i've never seen the first one, i loved the sequel. It was so heartfelt, funny and relatable. And the soundtrack was great. Is it weird that i thought more than once about how hot Johnny is? 5. Bullet Train This was fun. Nice action sequences, some hilarious dialogues and great cinematography. Also liked the surprising star cameos. And i am usually not a big fan of Joey King, but she kinda slayed here. 6. Don't Worry Darling Another case of "style over substance" and i absolutely don't care. I loved it. Florence Pugh gives such a magnificent performance that i can easily forgive the weak script. And the score and visuals were amazing, too. 7. Not Okay Director and screenwriter Quinn Shephard incorporates socially critical themes into her film in an amusing way. The shift between comedy and drama can often feel uneven, but Shephard never loses sight of the seriousness of the situation and Zoey Deutch, Mia Isaac and Dylan O'Brien are amazing in their roles. 8. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Elizabeth Olsen as the Scarlet Witch really carries this movie and outshines everyone around her. The fight scenes were pretty great and as a horror fan, i loved how dark and even kinda bloody (in a PG-13 way) this movie was. 9. Do Revenge Not only do i ******* love revenge movies, the cast also includes the legendary Sarah Michelle Gellar herself. "Do Revenge" plays out like most teen movies, but the insane chemistry between Camila Mendes and Maya Hawke, as well as the homages to classics like "Cruel Intentions", make this movie more than worth a watch. 10. The Worst Person in the World A norwegian dramedy about a 30 year old woman, who struggles with her love life, as well as her career path. This was an emotional rollercoaster and i really didn't need to get slammed with some relatable **** like this right before the end of the year. REPLIES 23 hours ago, Mr. Blue_Shirt said: Glass Onion is currently my favorite film of the year. Remmy Posted January 2, 2023 Posted January 2, 2023 Luckily I've seen none of the flop horror/non-horror movies And I've heard about slightly less than half of them, too. 11. Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery || Great sequel! 13. Bros || Wanted to enjoy this more, but it was decent enough. 14. Kevin2803 Posted January 2, 2023 Author Posted January 2, 2023 Top 25 Horror Movies 21. Run Sweetheart Run This was the most violent Tampon commercial i've ever seen. Jokes aside, „Run Sweetheart Run“ might not win any awards for originality, but it's fast-paced, fun and has a good lead actress. 22. The Invitation I love that this movie knows exactly what it is and doesn't try to be anything else. A little generic, but also a lot of fun. I liked the asthetics, the cast and i feel like we didn't have a mainstream vampire movie in forever. 23. Nope Probably not Jordan Peele's best movie, which is still "Us" for me, but definitely his most ambitious and unique work. Amazing cinematography and sound design, likeable characters and a very interesting script. The pacing isn't the best and if you're looking for a pure horror movie, this one isn't it. 24. Bodies Bodies Bodies The idea of having the film play mostly in the dark, with only cell phone camera lighting, is not only indicative of the generation, but also adds to the atmosphere. The kills are bloody, but could've been a little more creative. However, the mostly young cast plays well and the soundtrack SLAPS. 25. Incantation "Incantation" reminded me a lot of movies like "The Ring" or "The Wailing" and while it doesn't reinvent the genre, it makes use of some horror tropes in a very effective way. REPLIES 6 hours ago, Remmy said: Luckily I've seen none of the flop horror/non-horror movies And I've heard about slightly less than half of them, too. 11. Kevin2803 Posted January 3, 2023 Author Posted January 3, 2023 Top 25 Horror Movies 11. Bliss From the gorgeous cinematography, over the electrifying score, right to the amazing practical effects - "Bliss" has influences from a lot of my favorite horror movies, but Joe Begos still put his own unique touch on it. 12. Pearl "Pearl" is more of a character drama with slasher elements that works so well thanks to an absolutely incredible performance by Mia Goth. Personally, i liked "X" a tiny bit more, but this was an excellent prequel. 13. Barbarian „Barbarian“ took the borror community by storm and rightfully so. Not sure what it is about comedians that make them so good at writing horror movies, but Zach Cregger's solo directional debut surprises with unpredictable twists and turns, a lot of tension and some really good scares. 14. Sissy The script is cleverly written and dives not only into bullying, but also mental health issues and the toxicity of social media. All while also being fun and suprisingly gory. 15. Fresh The tonal shift after 30 minutes works so well and "Fresh" manages to blend genres so smoothly, it's incredible. What really adds to the movie being so good is the chemistry between Daisy Edgar-Jones and Sebastian Stan. 16. Bones and All Intense, bloody and gut-wrenching, yet also beautiful, emotional and kinda romantic. Timothée Chalamet and Taylor Russell easily carry this movie with their great chemistry. 17. The Menu "The Menu" is missing some thrills and surprises, but that gets even out by a brilliant cast and hilarious dry black humor. 18. Hellraiser The original "Hellraiser" has such a unique story structure, while the reboot plays it more safe and a bit more generic. Still pretty good and atmospheric, but also too polished at times. Jamie Clayton gives a terrific perfomance as the Priest and the other Cenobites are great, too. 19. Deadstream If you can get over how annoying the lead character is, „Deadstream“ is actually really fun. Made me laugh a lot, but it was also spooky, gross and had some nice practical effects. 20. Speak No Evil „Speak No Evil“ was very slow, probably too slow for most people, but i found it very anxiety-inducing. Everything seems harmless, but feels slightly uneasy and it gets worse and worse until its harrowing and bleak finale. REPLIES 21 hours ago, TheWayWeWere said: Didn't see a lot of movies this year, so thank u for your suggesations Marry Me was so surprisingly enjoyable! EEAAO is freaking amazing! TheWayWeWere Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 Pearl was nice, and Mia is amazing, but I kinda expected more from all the praise
Kevin2803 Posted January 4, 2023 Author Posted January 4, 2023 Top 25 Horror Movies 1. Scream (2022) The new "Scream" movie definitely met my expectations. Even more than that. It kinda goes similar ways than the 2018 version of "Halloween", by bringing the old generation and a new generation together, but does it even better. It really feels like something new and fresh, yet still has the right amount of nostalgia to please the legacy fans. 2. X With "X", Ti West taps again into his love of retro horror and delivers a fresh spin on the classic slasher formula. The movie starts off like every other TCM rip-off, with a few young people driving through Texas and finding a sketchy place to stay in the middle of nowhere, but from there it slowly builds an uncomfortable, eerie tension before exploding into a bloody gore fest. 3. The Innocents "The Innocents" represents exactly what i love about horror. On paper, it's just a movie about four children, who gain superpowers, but it goes much deeper than this. It tells a haunting and complex story about the loss of innocence and raises the question if we all have something evil or a sense of moral in us, from the day we are born, or if we are formed by our surroundings and the way we grow up. 4. Texas Chainsaw Massacre Controversial opinion, but i thought this movie was SO FREAKING GOOD. "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" was so extremely gory that even i gasped a few times and was watching with my mouth open. Leatherface doesn't mess around in this one and slaughters everyone who gets in his way in the most brutal way possible. 5. Watcher "Watcher" really makes the most out of its rather simple story. Chloe Okuno manages to create an eerie atmosphere with simple tricks. The lighting, camera work and sound design are perfect, especially for a directional debut. I could rave about the asthetics for hours. 6. Fall Some could debate if this really is a horror movie, but for me it counts as survival horror and is more horrifying than most movies on this list. I actually cried, because this movie made me so anxious. I am extremely afraid of heights. Grace and Virginia gave great performances and the whole movie was just filled with almost non-stop tension. 7. Men „Men“ was very much a conventional horror movie, with jump scares and other horror tropes, but at the same time it‘s also elevated horror, as people like to call it. The setting is gorgeous, the score haunting and the atmosphere very eerie. I was actually scared a few times. 8. Terrifier 2 "Terrifier 2" is what "Halloween Ends" should've been. In contrast to David Gordon Green, Damien Leone knows what slasher fans want and delivers a gore fest that only rivals "The Sadness" in terms of violence. 9. Smile "Smile" goes more in the direction of "It Follows", albeit a bit more generic. The flick cleverly plays with light and darkness and proves how effective, for example, an open door, looking into the void, can be. The sound design contributes to the dense atmosphere. 10. Orphan: First Kill I loved this prequel way more than i thought i would. I was scared that it wouldn't live up to the original, because you can't recreate that twist, but they found other ways to make this movie surprising, which even shined a new light on aspects from the first movie and gave the second one a campier and more fun tone.
